Re: [group] Helping Himself by Horatio Alger - phil

Chapter 32 does have the correct 5 second tail, but this is my signature error, (I leave them to sample a chunky noise profile, then forget to trim) so I knew that one of them had to be too long. The 20 second silence was at the end of Chapter 31. https://librivox.org/uploads/philchenevert/helpinghi...

Re: Meister Eckhart's Sermons - TriciaG

This being no surprise, with a reader who even posts the decibels, Section One is PL OK. Eric, when I first stumbled across Librivox, I listened to your Shantideva piece, a fine job, and remembered it when you came forward with this project. So I knew when I signed on that proof listening would be l...

Thank you very much for including this in your suggestions list. It was such a moving piece.

Sections 18-21 are uploaded. And thanks for the tip on deleting previous mp3's. That's the way I'm doing it now.

Re: The Ascent of Mount Carmel - icequeen

Hmm, I seem to have experienced an Audacity error. That mistake in the introduction to section 16 is the flub I referred to a few posts ago. I corrected it yesterday, and since I had to paste the new sentence in, I tweaked the amplification up and down to make it sound the same. I saved the mp3 by c...

Re: The Ascent of Mount Carmel - icequeen

That all sounds great. I'm looking forward to whatever you do. Losing sight of the year is no small amount of fervor. In fact, section 16 of this work explains why that's a good thing. Sections 10-17 are uploaded.

Re: The Ascent of Mount Carmel - icequeen

Off the top of my head, a Carmelite anthology including Brother Lawrence, St Therese, and any number of lesser knowns. If you're afraid it would languish as a group project, invite a small group. I'd sign up.

Re: The Ascent of Mount Carmel - icequeen

Oh, I do like it better that something is born of two things than that it results. Your suspicions about "j" in objecto are quite right. Even with the little box next to "Latin" checked on the left, the speaker clearly rendered it "ob-ject'-o." And since notitia had two pronunciations, ending either...

Re: The Ascent of Mount Carmel - icequeen

Geez Louise, what is it with me and the long tails? Now that you've caught me a couple times, I've started trimming immediately after the noise cleaning, and I keep thinking I do... In the car today I was listening to one of the new ones, and I actually say, "end of section 13" followed by about 15 ...

Re: The Ascent of Mount Carmel - icequeen

Ann, I've got one flub to fix this weekend, then I'm giving you the rest of Book I. Studying ahead, I've got this coming up: Ab objecto et potentia paritur notitia. Really, seems pretty intuitive, and I forvo-ed it word by word and they all sounded about like I thought. But forvo didn't find paritur...

sections 8 & 9 are in the MW. Depending on whether you like little bites or big bites, I have several more that I'll be editing over the week, and posting as I go.

May I DPL this project? I love Eckhart, and was actually looking for a PD translation when this came into the Suggestions page. Nice score, Eric!

Re: [group] Helping Himself by Horatio Alger - phil

Yes, that is authentic. St John and St Teresa were at the center of the Spanish Reformation together, co-founded the Discalced Carmelites, and John was her confessor, after joining her at her invitation. Also, every word of Teresa's that has been preserved has been recorded for Librivox by icequeen....
