Re: How much do you need to know the work?

Not to beat a dead horse, here, but I just thought of something. Someone who reads a print book (or sees a play) doesn't know what happens next, doesn't know character motivations, story arcs, etc., -- the reader learns these things as the story unfolds and manages just fine -- so does it matter if ...

Re: How much do you need to know the work?

I read without prep. Always. No matter what. I enjoy the surprise of finding out what I will say next while I'm recording.

(Also I get bored easily  )

I hear that story a LOT in the newbie inbox! Like, "I've been listening to librivox books for five years and I suddenly realized that I could volunteer so here I am!" :9: :9: :9:

Re: constant repetition of public domain message

One of the newbies I whose forum account I recently activated said she discovered us because the narrator of the book she was listening to invited her to join us at the beginning of every chapter. What a lovely way to think about it!

When I record, I always have the first post up on my computer so I can read it exactly as the BC said to read it so as to get it right.
Me too, and I've been doing this since 2005

Re: SOLO: Reason in Religion (Volume Three of "The Life of Reason") by George Santayana

Hi plbeard, BC stands for Book Coordinator. A BC (usually) starts a project and is responsible for maintaining the "Magic Window" (the box in the first post that shows chapter assignments, proof-listening status, notes, etc. There will be a Magic Window in your first post here when you're ready to s...

Chapter 5 notes:

At 1:24, the text has "the bent and venerable Major and Mrs. Ward; lawyer Riverson,". Reading has mayor instead of Major. (Tom's town wasn't big enough to have two mayors.)
Oops! Good catch. Fixed:

Re: GROUP: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain - philc

Hey would you change the link to the text to be the main page for that book? It's kinda irritating to be sent to the html version if a reader wants plaintext or kindle. And the database should have the main page listed, not the html page. This is the correct url: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/74 T...

Re: Can I use my phone to record?

Twisted Wave has a very nice user interface and is fun to use, especially on an iPad! Very intuitive. I've done some tests and I'd say the recording quality is no worse than an inexpensive USB mic, so certainly good enough. I'll submit a poem pretty soon and post the link here.
