Don't waste your time listening to it, I just realized that there is a repetition in it which I'll need to cut out.

Re: OPEN Short Story Collection Vol. 056 - rg

Thank you both. :)

I was just about to post that I'd taken the plunge and checked 'allow clipping', and it worked just fine (and checker tells me that nothing is clipped). I'm just listening to the result. I'm afraid there are a few plosives, so I'm not sure it is acceptable.

Re: OPEN Short Story Collection Vol. 056 - rg

I have a problem. I recorded something to submit here, but the volume is too low (85,3dB). However, try as I might, audacity won't let me amplify (except for reducing dB). What am I doing wrong? :help:

Re: Newbie from Germany here

Claudia, Also with background noise, you have to rely more on your ears than on the numbers in Checker. Phil and others have pointed out that Checker dB readings for background noise can be a little off, depending on how much sound it samples at the end of a recording to look for noise. So low numb...

Re: Newbie from Germany here

Thank you, Carol. Now that I know what to look for, I'm sure I'll be fine. I repeated the noise cleaning (I had made a mistake on my first attempt ), and the result was just fine. :)

I've bookmarked all the relevant pages for easy access, too. :)

Re: Newbie from Germany here

OK, I just did something we aren't supposed to do and downloaded the approved file, and I see that the background noise is now down to 26,7, while at the same time the volume is up by 0,7. When I tried to remove noise, the volume went down by 10dB while the background noise wasn't considerab...

Re: Newbie from Germany here

I'm sorry, Claudia. I'm not sure I understand you. Were these LV recordings? Yes. I only found out today about how to check all the information in the checker, was curious and checked two of my submitted recordings. One of them showed a Background noise of 39,7dB, but I wasn't asked to do a noise r...

Re: Newbie from Germany here

We aim for 89db. In checker ( Experimental Version ) click the information tab, and it will show you your volume. You can then go back to your Audacity file, highlight it all and use your maths to add or deduct from the figure checker gave you. Hope that makes sense? :? Thank you (and for the info ...

Re: Newbie from Germany here

Hi Claudia, You can PL a section in a project which is still looking for a DPL. Almost every BC *prefers* having a dedicated proof-listener, but until one shows up, they still have sections which need PLing in the meantime. Sometimes a project never is able to attract a DPL, and all of the sections...
