Profiles of the Internet Archive

In case some of you did not receive this link, this is a feature the BBC did on Brewster Kahle and the Internet Archive. And for you newbies, who might not be aware, the Internet Archive is the storage location of all LibriVox files. This is the short (approximately 6 minute) version: https://www.yo...

Re: Blast from my Past

I like your beard more than Daddy Walrus's ... what fun, though!! It was, Cori! And those of us who knew about Astro Boy really felt honored. He's the Mickey Mouse of Japan. I had watched the black & white version as a kid and loved it. Now there is even a group of young anime fans who look up to u...

Blast from my Past

I thought I would share this truly nice remembrance from my past first voice acting experience. I was right out of graduate school in my mid 20's and had the privilege of being part of the cast of a new color series remake of the classic Japanese cartoon series, Astro Boy. I played his karate-skille...

... you're posting comments on Facebook and keep looking for the smilies standardly used on the LibriVox phpBB forums. Zuckerberg needs to upgrade to a level of this extremely basic bulletin board.

Re: When book is not on line

Hi Nina,

I believe the book would need to be scanned and uploaded to the Internet Archive.

I'm sure an MC will be around soon to verify, clarify, or correct me. But I think you do have to provide it for the proof reader.

Re: LV Community Podcast 132: The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam

Excellent job, Algy! Bravo! Very informative, well-structured, and beautiful. A nice variety of LibriVoices, too, which is what makes the community podcast what it is. Mostafa's mention that the rhythm and melody of the original Persian is lost in translation makes me think of the Robert Frost's fam...

Re: Accents vs. Mispronunciation

This is all great. Lucretia, this makes me think it is time for a podcast about this. Would some of you who entered into this discussion care to record some segments for the show? It could be exactly what you have been writing here or variations on it. Please think about it. It would be very helpful...

Re: Accents vs. Mispronunciation

Many words have two equally acceptable pronunciation, such as often, being pronounced either with or without a voiced "t." Dictionary.com offers POO-mah (non-liquid "u") as an acceptable alternative but my American Heritage Dictionary only lists the liquid "u" (PYOO-mah). There are some words, howev...

Incredible! Thanks for posting! My favorite so far: She slinked through my door wearing a dress that looked like it had been painted on … not with good paint, like Behr or Sherwin-Williams, but with that watered-down stuff that bubbles up right away if you don’t prime the surface before you slap it ...

The Man Who Would Be King by Rudyard Kipling read by Philippa (russiandoll) Listened to a few minutes of it and then immediately registered at LibriVox. Went back later that month and listened while driving. Drove around the city a little aimlessly in order to be able to finish the story. One of th...

I'm not quite done listening yet, but Bob, you do impress me every time. And the interview form really works well  Thank you so very much, Nadine! I really appreciate your saying so. :D I loved the interviews in this show, too. I got to try out some new techniques with one of them and I think...
