Hi all! Just checking if this is for me!

I've been enjoying ebooks on my way to work for a while now.
Initially I was annoyed by the MP3 format's larger size, and low quality.
But I am thinking of making ebooks myself; of higher quality (for myself) and sharing it with librivox in MP3 format.

Re: compressor, normalize, clipping?

Clipping is cutting off peaks of data. In most softer cases, clipping won't do much harm, as any pc nowadays can clip up to 3dB without really losing quality. They have something called 'soft clipping', where instead of the natural curve of the wave, the tip gets rounded off more VS totally cutting ...

Re: Dramas

In general: - In the first post of the project, it will tell you how to start your recording. Usually, it's "[role], read by [your name/identity]". So if you are reading the part of Dr. Frankenstein, you'd say, "Dr. Frankenstein, read by cowguy02 (or however you want to be known to t...

Re: Background noise

Get a better microphone. There are lots of microphones you can choose from. Personally, I'd advise the: - 'Blue Snowball' as a starters microphone on a budget. $60 - 'Blue Microphones Yeti', as a beginner-intermediate, best bang for the buck, has better background noise cancellation. $110 - 'Audio T...

Re: File formats?

Thanks! I understand what I have to do, and for the time being, I will post any audio books as 128kbps CBR books. No - we need the format as said above for the catalogue. Our files need to be compatible with portable mp3 players Anne Anne, The last time I found an MP3 player that played only MP3 CBR...

Re: File formats?

The MP3 format,
I've seen plenty of MP3 formats on this site of 64 to 128kbps, 22kHz to 44.1kHz, mainly mono files.
I suppose you'd want the MP3 to be CBR; but the bitrate has to be below 128kbps?

Is it possible to use VBR or ABR instead (simply because I find CBR MP3 to be of such low quality)?

Re: File formats?

Thanks, Easiest for me, would probably be to upload 48kHz flac files (mono). If I upload them in that format, will they appear here in different formats, or as Flac files? I just think it's a pity, this site can't serve opus or WMA files. I find them of much higher quality than the outdated MP3 form...

File formats?

What fileformats are accepted for abook uploads? I recently got aware of Opus, an excellent encoder for audio books. I was thinking of creating 24 bit, 96kHz WAV files, that after conversion will reduce to 48kHz mono Opus files at around 64kbps. Should create superior sound; but not sure if the serv...

Re: Project recoding?

I understand. I thought someone had the files on a server, and had physical access to the server. Does LibriVox rent storage space with archive? Would it be legal to download, convert, sort or archive them, and share them for free with other people? My estimation is that one blueray disc of 25GB wit...

Project recoding?

Hello, I don't know if there's any interest in recoding the content of the site for smaller file formats? I'm making personal backups for my Christian home library, into a Windows file format. While doing so, I stumbled upon this website, and wanted to add as many files to my personal library as pos...
