Section 11 PL okay.

Congratulations; that must have been incredibly hard work.

Re: (Solo) Divine Conduct or the mystery of providence - tg

PL for Section 3: Nicely read again. Just a couple of things: 29:18 repeat of "What a special mercy was it for us to have the excresences [sic] of corruption" (top pf p48) 31:11 "us" missing in "when they could have us no more" (p48) 41:27 missing "3" before "It is usual with God" (bottom of page 53...

Section 11 (44:35) https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/londonlabour3_11_mayhew_128kb.mp3 Punch 3 including the whole play! Sorry about the screeching Punch's voice. You may want to turn your volume down a bit. It's a bit longer but I thought I'd keep the whole play together. (Of course, I mean...

Re: SOLO London Labour Volume III -ans

He probably did. I think it was very influential in its day.

Punch is obviously the basis of a lot of pantomime "nonsense" as well. I hadn't realised. We don't have them in Scotland, I don't think.

Re: (Solo) Divine Conduct or the mystery of providence - tg

I've listened to Sections 1 and 2. You have a very calm voice: pleasing to listen to.

These have already been PL'd, of course, but I noticed a couple of errors in Bible passage references. I could PM you with the details. If you want to leave them, that's your choice.

Looking forward to Section 3!

Re: SOLO London Labour Volume III -ans

I had that at first and then changed it to fit in with the general 'rhythm' of the talk. But I think you're right. I'll change it back. Yes, we have the whole play of Punch and Judy coming up! NOT exactly relevant to his research, but there you go. I think he was charmed. The punchman keeps giving h...

Punch Part 2 from "Punch Talk" (page 47).

I went with the "catEEVA" pronunciation.

Section 11 will start with "Description of Frame and Proscenium" (page 53)

Re: SOLO London Labour Volume III -ans

The meaning is "bad", "ultra cativa" being very bad.
I was more thinking it would either be [cat-EEVA] as if Italian, or [KAT -iva]. I hadn't thought of the diphthong.

Re: SOLO London Labour Volume III -ans

You're quick! Thanks. I hadn't heard of swozzles. According to Collin's dictionary it's from the same time. Maybe Mayhew was just a few years ahead of it coming into regular parlance. Section 10 includes some of the "Punch talk" for which I'm going to have to decide on pronunciation. It's from Itali...
