Re: Hello everyone!

Well... welcome to LibriVox! If you’ve done your 1 minute test you are ready to jump in - browse through the various Readers Wanted posts and find a book you would love to listen to as an audiobook, then volunteer for a section. The book coordinator and proof listener are here to help you through th...

Re: Practical limits to headphone 'cordage'

A headphone extension should work just fine for you. I see Best Buy lists a closeoit 20 foot curly cord one for under $10. If yoi have a Fry’s or Micro Center in your area look there. Happy listening.

Re: [group] The Bear Family at Home - philc

This looks like a fun book! If there are still chapters after I’ve moved I’ll sign myself up.

Moving = major pain. Also, I’ll lose my extremely quiet attic. (But I’ll gain a splendid view!)

Re: Audacity already running error [Mac]

If Audacity is running you should see an icon for it in the Dock at the bottom of your screen. If there is a start up button for Audacity there should be dot near the icon if it is already running. In either case if you click the icon you should get the Audacity menu — so trundle your cursor up to t...

Re: That late night, intimate radio voice

Could it be proximity effect? You basically "eat the mic" - get real close to the microphone. Works better with some mics (and voices) than others. Proximity effect works with directional mics. As for the ‘some voices’ part, some of us (raises hand) have voices that sound like a lawnmower running t...

Re: [SOLO] The War of the Worlds, by H. G. Wells - icequeen

I’ve been lurking in this thread waiting for your ‘Epilogue is ready’ post. Congratulations! As soon as @icequeen returns from travels and sends it off to the catalog I’ll download a copy. Yay, the project zoomed along faster than I had any right to expect. I love pretty much all tellings and retell...

Re: LibriVox Community Podcast Planning

Hello podcast folks. Have there been any segments on sexism / racism in recent ‘casts? If not, I’d love to hear suchlike. 100-year-old books are full of stuff that doesn’t agree with modern sensibilities ( ao it’s in your interest to look at a book/chapter before you volunteer to record it!

Re: The offensive

I miss the Librivox Community Podcast. All the -isms in historic books would be/would have been a great topic for that podcast. The way authors tossed -isms into their books in the past should make us think about the assumptions we carry around in out heads today. At the worst, -isms can make us as ...

Re: [SOLO] The Story of a Woolly Dog - dii

Chapter 2 had some weirdness going on which I tried to fix. I re-recorded it, but if I upload Chapter 2 again, you'll have to PL it again. There’s no need to replace chapter 2 - the stuff I saw with Audacity was at frequencies so low no sane headphone or speaker would reproduce. I only mentioned it...

https://librivox.org/uploads/dii/woollydog_05_hope_128k.mp3 13:25 Chapter 5 - "A Lost Diamond" - PL OK. If only the Woolly Dog could talk when humans were around. He could tell them where that ring is. 50% complete already. Chapters 1 and 2 had some very low frequency noise in the recordings - 3, 4...
