Another fairly short reading, and I hope an interesting story, very French.

Re: Problems with recordings.

It could be that when you are editing you splice too close to the word. Allow another half second of silence.

Re: LIBRIVOX NARRATOR WORKSHOP 2! [ZOOM, FEB 28]

This was very good, and it has got me back into recording for LV, after a bad period of inactivity. It's nice to get back behind a good mic again.

Re: Daydreaming

I have this trouble when walking my dog in the local park - so many people! Joggers, cyclists etc. That's the price I pay for living in London ... Even the countryside is no longer silent.

Re: Do we require more than 0.5 seconds of silence at the start?

I know that it would be nice for PLing to be able to measure everything to several decimal places but that's not really what PLing is about, it's about the things that are essential like the bitrate etc and the rest is more about things sounding right so .4999 secs and 1.0001secs would be OK. Anne ...

Re: Do we require more than 0.5 seconds of silence at the start?

The real question is ... does it matter? As a PL, I can't tell the difference while listening if the beginning silence is .01 or .05 or 1.0 second(s). :) (BTW, I interpreted it the same as Devorah.) I'm a bit surprised at this rule as commercial CD's and radio broadcast recordings often have anythi...

Re: Unbiased ears/opinions needed

The voice quality is much better but the noise floor is surprisingly slightly higher than before. Overall though it's much less tiring to listen too, so a definite improvement. The increase in noise may be a limit of your equipment and other than getting a better mic/interface you may not improve it...

Re: Unbiased ears/opinions needed

Yes, agreed that you need to be closer to the mic. I am usually at about 6-9 inches away, depending on the mic. Use duvets/blankets to reduce reverb and you can reduce gain as well with closer miking which will also reduce room sound. You have a low ceiling so reduce the room sound as much as possib...

Re: Weekly/Fortnightly Poetry Suggestions

Hi, I’m having some difficulty. I wanted to read the short story “The Signal Man” by Charles Dickens but I’m not sure if this is the correct thread. I would appreciate being pointed in the right direction. Thanks in advance, Owee You need - this is the current short story collection 088. https://fo...

HOW TO USE VOICE ETC (GUTENBERG)

http://www.gutenberg.org/files/47194/47194-h/47194-h.htm#Page_5

The above link takes you to a Gutenberg book which has tips on how to speak, train voice and deliver good speech. Probably written before the advent of the microphone but nevertheless will still apply.

Hope it is useful.
