Re: What's wrong with my recording??? [Solved?]

Yes, I have multiple USB ports on my laptop. I switched the mic cord to where the speakers had been plugged in and put the speakers where the mic had been. No issues with my speakers so far, so I'm not really sure if I can just say that the port is bad. Well I'm pleased that it is working now, hope...

Well, with the mic plugged in to the other port, I was able to make it all the way through my section without any more weird noises.
What was the "other port" you plugged the mic into? Was it a USB connection?

Re: What's wrong with my recording??? [Solved?]

It sounds as if when the mic was plugged into the original port, that port may have become faulty - some component playing up. Changing to another port by-passed the circuitry which had the problem. What is the interface you are plugging the mic into?

Re: What if I Suck?

The problem I'm running into, and am interested in hearing other people's solutions or suggestions for, is how to record a longer chapter and maintain continuity of volume/clarity and energy. Do you read the whole section, 30-60 minutes as it may be, all in one go, then edit a saved copy of the raw...

Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread

The reason I wrote what I did was for Phil's thoughts - I just felt it was important for him to mention clipping if he made a video for this effect because we have had recordings from people who have fixed the volume by just lowering it after it was clipped - and it sounds terrible  And we a...

Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread

You can use a limiter when recording to reduce the peaks and avoid clipping. You can also use compression post recording to do a similar thing. But the best way to contain peak levels and keep them at least -3dB below full scale is to train yourself to limit your own spoken volume so that your avera...

Re: Some feedback from experienced narrators

Hope it helped. The only advice I can give (and I may not be qualified anyway) is to make your recordings and readings as clear as possible so that a listener has no problem in understanding.

Re: Adobe Audition Help Needed

I think you can get too hung up on LUFS. I have a LUFS meter but for narration readings I do not use it. I just adjust my recording machine for the right values and if necessary increase or decrease the dB level if needed in post production. Checker requires quite a high reading for Librivox in an a...

Re: Did Every British and American Writer like British Colonialism and American Imperialism?

By the way, what does 'Lurcher' in Your name mean? :) "Lurcher" is a type or breed of dog. It is a sight hound and they are very good hunters. We have her as a pet and do not use or encourage her to hunt, and she is quite old now so past it anyway. She is in fact a rescue which we took on when she w...

No offence. Britain certainly has a lot to answer for as well. Better leave it at that.
