Re: ZOOM Discussion Thread

Yes, I was thinking of mentioning that. I had my playback sound at the limit and I could hear OK but it was still rather quiet. I would suggest an increase in gain of about 5-8dB. Excellent video though. Very well done.

Re: USB Microphones versus Interfaces and XLR Mics

Well of course an XLR mic powered by phantom power is always going to be the best solution, and one that I have always used. A decent interface will provide stable phantom power and depending on price (but not always) the mic will provide a good pickup area (polar pattern) and plenty of gain, as wel...

Re: Checker compatible with Mac Os Catalina 10.15.7

I may be wrong but I thought there was only one version of Checker? I've found on a Mac that Checker has worked on a couple of OS that I have used. I'm using High Sierra for the last year or more and it works fine. I've just seen that Catalina is the first version of macOS to support only 64-bit app...

Re: ZOOM Discussion Thread

I listened to a few minutes of the Zoom discussion. The lady who had big problems with mouth "clicks" and having to edit them all out and was looking for a "de clicker." I think this is unnecessary because there was no sign of these clicks when you were speaking on the Zoom discu...

Re: Recording with a Covid Mask

Hi Chris, Well, it's mostly face-to-face. I haven't actually heard a recording from a masked individual. However, I have the same difficulty with news reporters, lecturers, and others speaking into a microphone when masked, which is probably closer to such a recording. :hmm: Of course, this is pure...

Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread

Reaper works very well for me. I do have Audacity but never use it. Audacity appears to be giving nothing but trouble to a lot of forum members!

Re: Recording with a Covid Mask

I would not think it would help at all, but just make the recording muddy. And it would not make any difference to "bathroom echo" as any sound outside of the mask would still be picked up by the mic with any room sound or echo.

You can also press "S" at the point where you have put the curser and it will split the file. (small "s" for split).

Re: Getting Mono in Reaper, from Stereo recording

When you render the file in Reaper you get various options, including "stereo" or "mono." This comes up automatically when you go to >File>render.

Re: English is over rated

As a native speaker of English I feel limited by English. One, sometimes English does not have the grammar needed for some expressions. At best it is awkward. I learnt Mandarin Chinese at high school. The teacher [not a native Chinese person] had to explain the state of being fashionable in English...
