Re: How Should I Stop/Decrease Stuttering?

First, don't be too hard on yourself. We all make silly stumbles. Definitely listen to the blooper thread. It's good for a laugh, but also is a rare chance for you to hear even "the best" readers struggling and to realize that it's not just you! Heck, you said that on a good day you might go ten min...

Lynda, I believe you already read that one. It was numbered as section 4 previously, but now I should have section 4 and you are section 5. :)

Re: Your Favorite Things About LibriVox

Definitely the community! Everyone is valued and encouraged, and I love the fact that it's international. We have people here from all over the world that we get to form connections with, even if we'll never meet. I also love the fact that I get to hear such a variety of voices from so many places. ...

Re: The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner

The hard thing about this book, I think, is that there are no chapter breaks, and hardly any section breaks. I think I counted three, maybe four, breaks in the whole book. I think I will read it at length and then decide whether to turn it into a group project or (possibly, if I like it enough) even...

Re: Is LV a form of escapism?

Well, that is J.R.R. Tolkien's view, but it doesn't really agree with mine. For instance, even if I do dislike materialism and the worship of material possessions, I still appreciate many man-made things, for example a good microphone, or a beautifully crafted cabinet. But a lot of things, jeweller...

Icebound by Owen Davis (1923) HathiTrust Link: https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/001372723 I don't know a ton about this one, other than the fact that it won the Pulitzer Prize in 1923. So yeah... might be worth a look. I've scanned through about half of this one, and I really like it so far! I...

Re: Solo: The Juvenile Bible - tg

Got it, thanks for your opinion. So then, I'll let you make the final approval, JayKitty. If you're happy with this recording (which I'm guessing you are, or you wouldn't have marked it Ready for PL), then I'll give it a PL ok and won't mention the quality again, since you're obviously aware of it.

Here's Exodus, ready for PL: https://librivox.org/uploads/triciag/juvenilebible_02_anonymous_128kb.mp3 Devorah, as you know the quality is not as good because my headphones broke. Hopefully all the edits are done. :hmm: The text is all complete and correct; however, I think the quality here may hav...

Re: Is LV a form of escapism?

For answer, I will quote a portion of J.R.R. Tolkien's On Fairy Stories , a lengthy and well worthwhile essay on, well, fairy stories. Here he defends one of the four functions of fairy stories, that of Escape: In what the misusers are fond of calling Real Life, Escape is evidently as a rule very pr...

Re: [COMPLETE][PLAY] The Mikado by W.S.Gilbert- annise

There's no slot of editor, so if you like I can add you as audio editor in the catalogue summary, but there are only official slots for MC, BC and DPL - since I'm already in there once it seems silly to have me twice and you not at all! So unless you feel strongly about it, I'd rather leave it as i...

Re: [COMPLETE][PLAY] The Mikado by W.S.Gilbert- annise

Is it possible to amend the catalogue page to show Beth as both BC and DPL and put me in as editor? I think I was sort of nominally added as DPL just so I could edit the MW, but that role was really Beth's.

Re: Play Suggestions

I read (or skimmed) all the way through Deborah. (Is it any wonder that one caught my eye?) Fairly short and not too many characters, but enough to give some options. Mostly female. It's fairly dark, but gives a really interesting picture of life in an isolated sea town.
