Re: Is LV a form of escapism?

For answer, I will quote a portion of J.R.R. Tolkien's On Fairy Stories , a lengthy and well worthwhile essay on, well, fairy stories. Here he defends one of the four functions of fairy stories, that of Escape: In what the misusers are fond of calling Real Life, Escape is evidently as a rule very pr...

Re: [COMPLETE][PLAY] The Mikado by W.S.Gilbert- annise

There's no slot of editor, so if you like I can add you as audio editor in the catalogue summary, but there are only official slots for MC, BC and DPL - since I'm already in there once it seems silly to have me twice and you not at all! So unless you feel strongly about it, I'd rather leave it as i...

Re: [COMPLETE][PLAY] The Mikado by W.S.Gilbert- annise

Is it possible to amend the catalogue page to show Beth as both BC and DPL and put me in as editor? I think I was sort of nominally added as DPL just so I could edit the MW, but that role was really Beth's.

Re: Play Suggestions

I read (or skimmed) all the way through Deborah. (Is it any wonder that one caught my eye?) Fairly short and not too many characters, but enough to give some options. Mostly female. It's fairly dark, but gives a really interesting picture of life in an isolated sea town.

Re: COMPLETE[PLAY]The Gay Lord Quex by Arthur Wing Pinero - thw

I've listened through Act 2, and I have to agree with Sonia's comments. Casting worked out very well for this one. I love when that happens! I've enjoyed this one very much, both recording for it and now listening to us all together. There have been quite a few laugh out loud funny moments already. ...

Re: Play Suggestions

I'm thinking of offering the 1923 George Bernard Shaw play "Saint Joan" but I'm a bit worried about the number of characters in the play. There are 15 characters who I think really need to be read by male voices (as part of the point of the play is how surrounded by men Joan really was). Do we even...

Re: 1 minute test

Thanks for your response to my test. I was able to confirm that my sample rate was 44100 Hz, the sample format was 16 bit. If I get the paid version of WavePad I will be able to export in mp3. I was not able to determine the channel or export bitrate. Can you tell from your end if the channel was m...

Re: 1 minute test

Hi Lily! I see what you mean about the background noise for sure. It's not just air noise, I think, but I do hear a slight buzz. :? Audacity has a really nice noise cleaning feature, and I tried it out on your file to see how it would affect it. I was able to get rid of the noise, but unfortunately ...

Re: New reader test

You'll choose joint stereo. Maybe your version isn't the newest, if it has that wording, but it doesn't matter. Joint stereo will do the trick!

EDIT: I wouldn't know about versions. Mine's a bit older because I'm scared to update it!

Re: 1 Minute Test (Thanks in Advance!)

Hi Melissa! Welcome to LibriVox! :D I can already tell by listening to your test that you're going to be a great addition to our team! Your tech settings are all fine. I can already say that this test gets an OK! I do have a couple of nitpicky suggestions, if you want to improve the sound quality of...

Hi, Mark! You've got a nice rich voice that was very pleasant to listen to. :) And your test settings are all good!

You can go ahead and start browsing the Readers Wanted forums, if you haven't already, to find your first project to join. Have fun, and I hope to see you around on the boards! :D

Re: 1 Minute Test

Hi, Chris! Your test sounds really good! Volume is spot on. You have some settings you'll need to change, though. I'm not at all familiar with your software, so I won't be able to walk you through it, but here's what we need: Channel: Mono Sample rate: 44100 Hz Sample format: 16 bit Export ...
