Re: [HUMOR] Potash and Perlmutter: Copartnership by Glass -
a Jewish accent is written into the text - through creative misspelling and word order. But no need to try and sound any particular way - this is standard PL and clear understandable readings are all that is necessary. Well... I'm Jewish and from NY (Brooklyn, actually), and my father was in the ga...

Bruce, I'll reserve chapter 8 for you until I hear back about whether you want a website link included. Then I can get you into the system for your first time. If you have any questions, just ask. We all learn a lot from each other on LibriVox! No website link at this point; just my name would be f...

I'd like to read Chapter 8, please. This will be my first recording (other than the 1-minute test).

Re: n00b HW issue: Pyle PDMIC58 mike, Behringer UM2, Win 10
EDIT: Excellent choice of headphones! Actually, as of yesterday I've stopped using them. They sound fine and construction is ok, but I have an unusually large head and it's painful to wear them for more than 15 seconds or so -- they're too tight. It's weird -- they make my *jaw* hurt. So for...

Re: n00b HW issue: Pyle PDMIC58 mike, Behringer UM2, Win 10
I agree that a new microphone, probably a condenser, would be a more cost effective solution. Your interface does have 48v phantom power and so will support condenser microphones. But increasing the gain gets the right volume level and doesn't add noise, you may be all set. Bad news. I tried the 1-...

Re: n00b HW issue: Pyle PDMIC58 mike, Behringer UM2, Win 10
You might also find, as I did, that turning the gain all the way up or very high introduces noise. For dynamic mics, I added a Cloud Lifter: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/CL1Cloud . It's not cheap and may be out of your budget -- and it requires an interface that supplies 48V, one that als...

That helped considerably -- thanks!
Do you know if there's a reasonable way to adapt the mike to a stand?

n00b HW issue: Pyle PDMIC58 mike, Behringer UM2, Win 10
In order to create better recordings, I've gone out of my comfort zone of cheap speakers/headphones with a built-in mike to buy equipment which I think is still very cheap but capable of better results: a Pyle PDMIC58 microphone, a Behringer U-Phoria UM2 interface, and Sennheiser HD 202 headphones; ...

Re: Good Heavens! Another Volunteer!
Thanks for the welcome. I took a look at the post you linked to; great! I'm no expert on Verne, and I've never heard of most of those works. Maybe I can fix that... By the way, I see that you're from Poland. My mother's parents were Polish immigrants (Polish Jews, but still). My grandfather was from...

Good Heavens! Another Volunteer!
I've been through a couple of careers (software industry and high school Math teacher), and am now semiretired due to an issue with my eyes. I had major problems with double vision, which prevented me from effectively grading the computer programs my students wrote, so I resigned. Last February I ha...
