Re: grp/romance The Glory Of The Conquered-Susan Glaspell-al
Hi Arlene, Thank you for the compliment, and for proofing. Actually the noise is likely a semi using is air-brakes on the curve near my house. I actually had no idea the sound was in either place. They drive by all the live- long day as I proof. The trucks are pretty frequent, so I try to record at ...

Re: grp/romance The Glory Of The Conquered-Susan Glaspell-al
Thank you Arlene, I appreciate that! I got some great advice in the listening editing forum, and found out how to get "replygain" working in audacity. It does not tell me what the decibels are, but it did tell me what I needed to "amplify" by, so hopefully things will be in range...

Re: grp/romance The Glory Of The Conquered-Susan Glaspell-al
Thanks for the Link Amy. It was very useful. I am all done now except for the Amplification (either positive or negative). I am currently working on a way to determine what decibel level the file is at. I've posted for help on that on the listeners/editors board, as neither of the two programs, for ...

Re: grp/romance The Glory Of The Conquered-Susan Glaspell-al
I noticed that I am still signed up for Chapter 4. So I've recorded it. I have not yet edited it though, and I have found that my recordings have a lot of variation in volume, and would appreciate advice on how to best edit that, in audacity, so that it is more equal. I have a bit of background nois...

Re: grp/romance The Glory Of The Conquered-Susan Glaspell-al
I am embarrassed and here's how my first librivox recording attempt has gone: Oct 19th- first one minute test November 1st- new microphone arrived that day, and in my excitement I redid my one minute test late that night. Two or three hours after posting the test I got a real shortness of breath, an...

I'm sorry I've missed some of the questions here. I had thought I was subscribed to be notified of activity on this thread, or I'd have gotten back to you. I have now subscribed, so should be safe from missing anything here in the future.

New microphone on the way
I decided to go ahead and go for a microphone.... so in about three weeks it will have arrived, and I will see if that solves the problem.
Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

Re: New Volunteer technical difficulties
Thanks for your help. The USB device is a Manhattan 3-D 7.1 Audio Adapter model number 151429 (http://www.manhattan-products.com/). It claims to be compatible with windows 7/8 and Mac OXS 10 and higher. However, it seems to clearly not be. There is a mini disk that comes with it that seems to have o...

Re: New Volunteer technical difficulties
Also I have set both my system preferences to use the line in mic input, and also I have set the audacity preferences to use the line in mic input, so that is not the issue.
What else could be wrong?

Microphone help needed
I can't seem to figure out what it will take to get a mic to work with my computer. The first mic which was one that plugs directly into the computer mic and headset ports did not record. I first tried a new mic, then I thought that perhaps the mic input ports themselves were faulty, so I got a USB ...

New Volunteer technical difficulties
I hope to become a new reader volunteer at Livbrivox. I am currently working on completing the one minute test-- and working out technical difficulties. I found librivox because I love "books on tape;" I live in outside the USA and can not easily and affordably get access to things to list...
