Re: New experimental feature in Audacity
Thanks. This feature will be in the coming Audacity version 2.1.0, with some differences in the details of the user interface.

New experimental feature in Audacity
I have implemented a new experimental feature in Audacity that I believe could be a tremendous convenience for the editing of voice.

Audacity Voiceover Users' Group on Facebook
Hello, I'm Paul, whom some of you know as the author of free de-clicker and de-esser plug-ins for Audacity. I manage a Facebook group dedicated just to technical help for users of Audacity for spoken word, be it for LibriVox or elsewhere. I welcome all here who use Audacity to join those discussions...

Re: Improvements to Audacity
Do you want to replace a short selection with an equal length of your room tone? Silence doesn't insert tone, and paste does not preserve the length of the selection. But I asked some people at the Audacity Forum about the problem, and the result was this pair of plug ins. These solve the problem ve...

Re: DeEsser & DeClicker Plug-ins For Audacity
I find the De-Clicker a very useful tool as well. Most of the time I can spot my truly annoying clicks pretty quickly, zoom in, delete. But some are stinky, and then I use the tool. Although I don't apply it to the entire track, I do use it for a few words here and there, sometimes even just a port...

Re: DeEsser & DeClicker Plug-ins For Audacity
Yes! Using spectrum to find the frequency to notch, then notching it. I wrote a program to do this automatically to my satisfaction, so there is one less sort of sound blemish I need to listen for and treat by hand singly as I edit.

Re: DeEsser & DeClicker Plug-ins For Audacity
As for de-esser, the method behind it might be described as a "multi-band brickwall limiter." It's not just a simple lowpass. I apply this after I compress my recordings, so that the rms of the track has been raised near to -20 dB. With the default settings, roughly speaking, it looks for ...

Re: DeEsser & DeClicker Plug-ins For Audacity
Ruth's caution is all to the good. I recommend that you develop trust in certain settings before using them on whole tracks. You may want a higher threshold or fewer bands -- either makes the effect less aggressive, and fewer bands will also mean a lot less computation. You may want to use stronger ...

Re: DeEsser & DeClicker Plug-ins For Audacity
Hello! I am the author of these plug-ins, and Steve brought this forum thread to my attention. I welcome your questions, suggestions, criticisms, success stories, relating to these tools. I don't pretend that I have discovered the best settings balancing computation time and quality of results. The ...
