Just to give all a quick update, the email a day service has surpassed 100 subscribers. Also, the unsubscribe rate has been very low. Thanks for all the input:)

Things are really looking good! It seems that folks are really using this feature. I see 5 sign-ups in the last hour :D . One of the items on the "To Do" list is a subscriber graph so the Librivox community can track the usage.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Hello earthcalling, I am guessing your email address, but I suspect that you subscribed at 2:02AM EST (7:00AM in London). You just missed the nightly email so your email didn't arrive until about 23 hours later. I do like the suggestion to show exactly which book the user is subscribing and unsubscr...

So far, everything is looking well. I think the Ajax pop-up is very tasteful. If anyone experiences any issues feel free to post them. I'll be tracking the subscribers and reporting the usage of this feature.

Tis,
Sure, I'll work with you via email. I think integrating this feature into Librivox will not require too much work. Thanks.

Thanks for the responses. I'd like to address some questions: 1. How many people have subscribed to the Librivox Chapter-a-Day emails: We've noticed a few sign-ups a day, we are at about 100 subscribers (in only about 1-2 months). I was very surprised at the initial growth. I would love to see 1000 ...

I bet the soldiers would appreciate the audio recordings in an iPod rather than a CD, but that could get pricey. If you're looking for a resource to donate education material to prisoners: http://www.prisonerseducation.org.uk/ CD make sense in this case, as I think Internet access is very restricted.

New Feature: Audio Chapter Emails

[Edited by tis:]This feature is now being rolled out gradually through our catalog. Look out for the 'section-a-day' links appearing on the catalog pages! [end edit] I have added Librivox audio recording to my online book site to add value to the pages. Recently, I added a feature where users can su...

Hugh, In my experience, increasing the user-base of a free service will increase the number of volunteers. So, the more people use or know about Librivox, the easier it will be to bring more Readers on board. So, advertising the recordings may be almost as good running volunteer campaigns. Just my 2...

What do you mean by audiobook? Do you mean a playlist that can be played by an application such as mp3 player / Window's Media Player?

There are a few mirrors that could hold you over in the mean time. http://gutenberg.elib.com/

I wouldn't worry too much.

Embed Librivox Audio in your Website

I created a very COOL tool for my literature website ( http://publicliterature.org ) that I would like to give away to the Librivox community. It let's you embed a Librivox playlist in your page. Basically, for any link to Librivox, you could also add a link to play any given Librivox page on your s...
