After going through the Wikipedia discussion, one suggestion I had was to have author pages. Would be easier with the catalog system, but I didn't see it in your list. Maybe what you mean by browse by author. Whether we link these from the Wikipedia author pages is antoher question

Gesine, Kara and I worked out that sample rates of 22.05 to 44.1 are OK.

Yeah Chris!!! I love the new Wiki. Already edited the volunteer page to add the info on volunteering for Wikipedia entries. This felt a little G.E.B. though. Hah!

The raw files are 1/2 the size, but the MP3's are about the same size. Sample rate from 22.05 at the bit rates we are at, don't really affect too much.

Yep. 24 will give you artifacts from 44.1. Whats strange, is they used to make 22.05 (some of our old books have all 22.05 on the 64kbps files)!

Seems like 22.05 to 44.1 is the right range. I think that's what we settled on, after we realized some were down to 8.

Archive.org actually makes 64kbps 22.05khz files from a 128 22.05 file and 64kbps 24khz from a 128 44 file. Don't ask me. Its strange.

Chip, I love that radio voice. Heck, that one is pretty good by itself!

Actually a lot of the 64kbps ones are at 24khz, because it appears that is the default for the archive.org encoder. Do 22.05khz work on your phone?

8000 is very low for quality's sake also. We probably want to set a minimum. Don't know what that would be. maybe 22.05
