Re: SOLO Middlemarch by George Eliot - al

Yay! Keep on rocking, Margaret! I started listening to the old existing version of Middlemarch on Librivox. (Negative criticism removed by admin.) You are doing the world a great service by creating a new beautifully read version of this great novel. Thanks!

Section 22 PL OK Section 23- Delysid. 7:44 "that you" repeated 19:44 sounds like something falling? at 19:58 and 20:45 a really loud clack noise- I think you were moving your mouse. It came through very loudly on my speakers. When recording I use a very fluffy mouse pad even though I have...

Re: ~[Group] The Four Feathers by A. E. W. Mason - arb

Durrance is by far my favorite character (even though I like Harry) that I hate to see him jilted. I like Durrance too, but is Ethne really such a prize? I mean, her handing a 4th feather to Harry really was a bit much, I thought. And her shenanigans with Durrance, hiding from him in garden with Wi...

Re: ~[Group] The Four Feathers by A. E. W. Mason - arb

I am just listening (for pleasure) to the author's "Running Waters" and enjoying it very much Anne Ha! Interesting. That's how I stumbled across The Four Feathers . I use a random number generator to choose Librivox works to listen to, and have made many wonderful discoveries thereby, tho...

Oh yes, one more thing -- Chapter 14 (again as obtained from Magic Window) has wrong Name in id3 tags. It has the name for Chapter 9 "At Glenalla". Drag it into iTunes and you'll see.

Re: ~[Group] The Four Feathers by A. E. W. Mason - arb

I'm listening to what has been read so far, and if when I get to the available chapters they are still, in fact, available, will prob volunteer to read them. Book took a while to grow on me -- almost gave it up, but finally getting caught into the plotline now in the 12th chapter. Anyway, I've been ...

Re: Non-native-speakers' bad pronunciation & strong accents

I've found, after listening to well over 100 novels on Librivox, probably over 200, that severe unintelligibility problems only occur with non-native speakers. A native English speaker, no matter how weird or obscure their accent, is not so hard to get used to because their pronunciation will tend t...

Re: Non-native-speakers' bad pronunciation & strong accents

I agree nice is nice -- very nice! And more power to non-native-speakers contributing. But a lot of them do need help with pronunciation, especially for less common words or words common in written English but rare in spoken. One quick suggestion -- find free or cheap text to speech applications, e....

Non-native-speakers' bad pronunciation & strong accents

It's great that non-native-speakers want to contribute to Librivox, but in many cases their pronunciation and accent is so bad that they can barely be understood. Potential listeners will just give up and move on to another title when encountering such incomprehensible chapters, thus wasting the tim...
