I also strongly suggest Phil Chenevert's excellent videos. See this Wiki page. Look for the word "Edit" on that page and watch those videos.

Re: Commercial Use of Librivox Recordings

Well, it simply means they need a better program. :P

Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread

Generally speaking a dynamic microphone can be simply plugged into the microphone port of your computer, and all you need is a cable that connects the respective pins correctly. Think of an XLR-to-1/4" patch cable plus a 1/4"-1/8" adapter. Maybe. So, it seems that the Samson mic driver for Win 10 i...

Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread

By the time you need to buy a new laptop there will be Windows 12, probably  Or they will figure out how to make old[er] microphones work correctly (i.e. like in Win 7). So, don't fret it. I think that in the majority of cases the device drivers that worked in Win 7 should just as well work in...

Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread

... The crazy thing is, the mic is absolutely fine with my old laptop. Did you try it again after you found the muffled-ness on the new laptop? If yes, then what is the difference between the laptops? Different OS? Different brand? USB 2.0 vs USB 3.0? What? And, as Tricia asked, and Kevin reminded ...

Re: Small digital recorders

Thinking of recording in my car when on a break at work, I decided to spring for a used Zoom H5. It has a decent set of built-in mics, and you can also plug in any external mic into its XLR ports (it has two of those). The amps are reasonably quiet and it even supplies phantom power. It's one of tho...

Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread

... I tried closing Audacity and unplugging the mic. Plugged the mic back in, then opened audacity, but it's still very muffled. So frustrating! Is there any other software you could try? Like "Sound Recorder" or Skype or FaceTime... Is there another microphone you could try as well, maybe the buil...

Re: Orgonomics (sp?)

One other thing helps (and I am fairly sure you know of that already): take breaks, relax. Fatigue develops because we stress/strain ourselves unduly and don't let muscles/tendons recover between periods of stress/strain. Keep reminding yourself to relax your shoulders too, that should improve blood...

Re: Orgonomics (sp?)

I think you probably mean "ergonomics". Regardless, I am not sure that a stylus on a tablet (that's what you likely mean by "a pen") would be a reasonably inexpensive alternative to a mouse. There is a trackball (you use your thumb/fingers to move the cursor on the screen) and there are different ty...

Re: Reading slowly

I've seen reports of folks using "change tempo" effect in Audacity. And there is another effect that simply speeds up the sound, and I used it once to shorten a section that didn't fit in the required 74 minutes. A few percent speedup is not noticeable (in terms of pitch), but would it be noticeable...
