All chapters are PL OK, I'm just missing a "both" line in chapter 103, "He is mad!"

Re: How much do you need to know the work?

I've now done a couple of dramatic readings and thought I'd report back. I've found that I need to read the text *around* my own lines -- that is, a little before, and the bits between lines if two of mine are fairly close. Doing so has given me insight that's changed the performance. In The Count o...

Read about this project in the "Orphans" forum. I'll take the last open chapter, "Chapter XVI - On Flowers of the Water". (Awaiting your O.K..)

I just started recording, but the checker rejects .flac files. Is there a reason you want them as .flac rather than .mp3 or some other Checker-friendly format?

Re: How much do you need to know the work?

Would too much advance information possibly lead a narrator to give something away that the reader isn't even supposed to know yet? A fair concern! That's why Creator/Producer Larry Gelbart didn't tell the cast of M*A*S*H (except Alan Alda) that they were killing off Colonel Blake until just before...

Re: How much do you need to know the work?

Thanks again, all. For "Monte Cristo" I pre-read only my own lines, and the bits leading into them. For now, that's what I'll continue to do, although maybe in the future I'll feel more comfortable just plowing ahead. But from just that, I could get a sense of my character's motivations an...

Re: How much do you need to know the work?

P.S. I've decided to take on Doctor D'avrigny in The Count of Monte Cristo. He's fairly minor, though. I wonder about possibly taking bigger characters without knowing the work better.

Re: How much do you need to know the work?

That analogy does not work for me. You don't need to listen to audiobooks to be able to produce them, and if you have to strain yourself and it's not fun for you to read (you do read to make an audiobook, yes?) At base, I enjoy the sound of my own voice. :) Reading aloud is more interesting to me t...
