Just for the record, I've done some research on available java libraries for file conversion over the browser. There is a library called javalayer: http://www.javazoom.net/javalayer/documents.html It has a built-in conversion program. One can use this program and covert it to run as a webstart apple...

I think it takes about 5-7 minutes to synchronize 1 minute of audio. It uses voice activity detection by analyzing a wav file (actually very simple algorithm). Wow, this sounds great. Do you need user input for this algorithm? I am guessing that 5-7 minutes is the computation time. ReVoxer design u...

Of course you can make it easy for all of them. Go the extra mile. Offer all of the formats. And new audioformats will pop up and you will want to do them too. You can heap endless work on yourself if you want to. Hi Stephan, I beg to disagree. The diversity of file formats, as with everything else...

Less computer savvy generally don't care about the file format - and they shouldn't either. If it plays, it's good :-) You might be right if there will be all major formats readily available for download. I was referring to the possible problem with some older devices that can only play files of ce...

hi folks just a comment on on-the-fly conversion: ibiblio will give us space but not much porcessing power: so no conversion allowed on those servers ... even once, and definitely not on-the-fly. Why does the conversion have to be at the server side? A straightforward browser application can arbitr...

Hi Konstantin,

It's great that we have more than one project that
tries to make LibriVox content more accessible!

Could you tell us a little about the format of your
files? I know that there are existing standarts for
synchronized audio/text. Do you use any of them?

It's just a teleprompter. You have to manually move it, but still. There's a bunch of software out there for it. Or am I just completly missing the point? Hi geoc, It's a lot more involved. But it is a teleprompter too. This reminds me that I have to remove that "demo", it's misleading...

Hello Mikey, Welcome to LibriVox. But there will always be a learning curve when editing audio (unless some of the suggestions earlier in this thread truly come about). You see, our aim is not implementing a general purpose audio editor. The project is mostly about making it easier to record and to ...

Maybe you could even include a feature for this into ReVoxer itself. This would probably be a feature to be added when the core important stuff is set. For example, you could put something akin to a link in the text where you have the presence of a note. When one clicks on the [1] or * that marks a...

Help: Design Document

At this point I think we need a design document, so that everyone that reads the document will be at the same understanding about what ReVoxer is planned to be and how will it get to that point. Could anybody help me put together a software design document for ReVoxer? If you could study the previou...

Hi HerrSchildkroete, 1.) How are we going to store the above data? An extra file? Some compressed data embedded in ID3v2 Tags? I can think of many possibilities, all of which have their advantages and drawbacks. We will just collect data as a separate file, which can be easily converted for many oth...

cool! umut - i told brewster kahle of internet archive about this project - i think he will like it. They are hosting the audio files right? This reminds me of a question... Is there a server where we can collect user created time-synch data? We will need about 1 GB for starters, and reasonable upl...

If you wasn?t finished with your sentence until then...BANG..out of recording-time. Stops in mid-sentence. You had to insert some "silent space" and rerecord again, hoping it fits into the enlarged area now. I thought: "Wow. Never wanna miss this." I see, that's an important fea...
