Thanks. Narrators often feel they are reading too fast, when they really just need to pause more, especially during dialogue.

I’ve only tried it experimentally, having no intention of actually working this way, but since the question seems to come up fairly often, I thought I’d try to work out how it could work. Now, if you added a good external mic, you might really have something.

You could use an iPhone to record, edit, master (i.e., apply compression, limiter, etc.) and export as a 128kb MP3 using TwistedWave, which I think costs like $5 for iPhone and iPad. I had a PR40 some years ago, and some preamp/interfaces did not have enough gain. An M-Audio did not. I had to get what was then an Xbox (defunct now). I'm currently using a Focusrite with a condenser, and I doubt, but have never tested it, that it has enough gain for the Heil. I'd talk to a tech at...
