Re: [MULTILINGUAL/GROUP] Declaration of Human Rights, (03)-a

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the absence; I had some trouble with my account. All fixed now!

Thanks, Chris and Marc! And Anne, for taking care of the cataloguing while I was gone.

Sadly, Brazilian Portuguese is classified as a dialect by Ethnologue/SIL (http://www.ethnologue.com/show_language.asp?code=por). I found an existing LibriVox recording in what's purported to be Brazilian Portuguese; maybe you could listen and re-read it if it's a good translation? http://ia331321.us...

Hi tjashy!

Sounds wonderful.
That is *the* authoritative source for translations. :)
Let me know if you have any questions along the way.

Oh yes! Thanks for reminding me.

Tried that combo, but got the following message:

"Sorry, you can only access this page if you are the BC for the project"

Oops, sorry BellonaTimes! I didn't see your comment when I remarked "fixed." That too is fixed now. Speaking of the summary, it was suggested earlier that I replace the text of the declaration there with a good prose summary. Anyone else think that's a good idea? Jim, Ruth, thanks for the ...

You don't necessarily need to specify which languages people can read for this collection If people are allowed to read sections in English or other languages, you might be more likely to get volunteers here at LibriVox. What do you think? I think it's a great idea not to pre-specify languages. Eve...

If you're going to do it this way, you should edit your initial post to make this clear (e.g. put the intended number of sections for this volume) so that volunteers (and whoever adopts your project as MC) are aware of this. Done. I wrote '15' for now; this can be reduced if necessary. Possible lan...

Are you still planning to be the Book Coordiator, and thus deal with the day to day submissions, etc? Yes, absolutely. Would you be willing to spread this over multiple volumes? You could start out with one volume of maybe 20 recordings (i.e. 20 sections). That way, if the project becomes too burde...

Presumably, the LibriVox disclaimer will need to be translated into each of these languages, unless the volunteers read the disclaimer in English or another language in which the disclaimer has already been translated. I would think that it is preferable, however, for the disclaimer to be in each l...

Apologies for not being totally clear about the goals for the project. I should have gone through these details sooner. This project is ultimately part of a larger project sponsored by the Long Now Foundation (www.longnow.org, www.rosettaproject.org) in conjunction with Jim Baker's ALLOW initiative ...

Hi everyone, So sorry for my silence, it looks like I forgot to check the "Notify me..." box when I posted! Jim's got it exactly right. I think we can never have too many languages represented here. LibriVox already has an impressive 50-language collection, which together (also impr...
