Section 4 is up, Helen. Now, if I can just get another up this month, I'll be on track. :D

Audiobooks outdo films in emotional engagement

Listen and weep: 'Audiobooks outdo films in emotional engagement' [A] new University College London study has found that audiobooks are more “emotionally engaging” than film and television adaptations....UCL study backed by Audible finds unconscious responses to the same book scenes, witnessed in ad...

Re: ~[SOLO] Selected Uncle Abner Mysteries by Melville Davisson Post - dlo

Hi Helen, Vacation is over, and I finally got back on this! Section 3 is up. I'm going to try to do two sections a month from now on. We'll see how that goes. :D By the way, I discovered that the text I was using is missing a couple of pages in this chapter, so I have changed the reference in this t...

The mission statement is definitely people not computers - but we do have to trust our readers. There are couple of readers with an unusual sound but they do breathe.

Hi Rapunzelina, Back from holiday and ready to go! Here are my three for July. The Blake is particularly appropriate, since we were in London earlier in the month (though, thankfully, the only plague we saw was the crowd of tourists). :D I’ll tell you how the Sun rose by Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) ...

Re: Mysterious crackling sound

David, Two possible sources for intermittent noise on your MacBook Pro are the hard drive (unless it's a solid state drive) and the cooling fan(s). Since your build in mic is omnidirectional and mounted in the computer case, it's in a perfect place to pick up mechanical noise from the computer itsel...

Re: A Landslide of Classic Art Is About to Enter the Public Domain

Here are a couple of lists of works published in 1923--the clock is ticking. :D Finding digitized copies online may be challenging at first, but they should be available eventually. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1923_in_literature#New_books https://www.goodreads.com/book/popular_by_date/1923 Winston

Re: Agatha Christie again..

There is an explanation in the stickied thread, "Some books that aren't in the public domain (and why)". I suppose we could put a separate stickied thread for Agatha, but I think we'd rather limit the number of stuck threads. *shrug* If we’re going to bury the Christie Conundrum in this thread, I s...

Re: Agatha Christie again..

The problem is that it is in the public domain in the US, which should be the governing law for LibriVox, so it doesn't really fall into the category covered by that sticky. Though I can't be authoritative on this, not being a lawyer, I have a sneaky suspicion that the Christie estate doesn't have a...

Re: Agatha Christie again..

Again, Agatha? Tricia, You’ve come up with the most elegantly succinct explanation of the Agatha Problem I’ve seen yet on the Forum. It’s not like you haven’t had a chance to perfect it over the years.:D May I suggest that you convert it into a sticky to put at the head of this topic? Seems like it ...

Hi Helen,

Just wanted to let you know that I haven’t given up on this. We’re on vacation, and I won’t be back at the computer until July 10. Will try to make up for lost time then.🙂

Getting in early this month, Rapunzelina. I'm going to be on vacation and away from the computer, so I wanted to make sure I got my dose of short poetry. :D That I did always love by Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) Text: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/12242 Duration: 0:49 MP3: https://librivox.org/uplo...
