digital noise

I just got a new USB headset to use with GarageBand. All seems to work fine in my test except for the squelchy sound in the background, like a faint AM radio squeal. It's nothing audible in the room, I don't think. Any ideas? Fan running on my G5? Bad ground wire? :(

Thanks Michael! One of the advantages of Open Source movement is the sense of community that comes from LibriVoxers. Thanks for welcoming us to the party. :D

Thanks

Kara: I'll remind you.

Anita: The open sourse paper discusses LibriVox and the student projects I developed for my graphic design courses at Pellissippi State Technical Community College. I'll be delivering it next month at an academic conference. :D

I'll pass along the praise to my students. 8)

A batch of cover designs!

Hello LibriVoxers. It's been awhile since I last logged in, but I return bearing gifts. :D I have developed a project for my graphic design course based on your audio books. Several of the projects turned out well enough to post on my blog. I'll list them with clickable links below so they can be po...

New Orleans on the Board

Hi folks! Sorry I've been out of touch, but the New Orleans trip went well, I spoke with someone in Aquisitions, got the shakedown from th Department of Homeland Security, and ate a lot of gumbo. I've got a list of CDs for those folks--specific things they want from the LV catalog. The first is a mu...

NOLA Donation Update

OK, so I may have overstated my case for MP3 CDs. While most of my friends have <i>some sort </i> of device (typically a Mac or PC that will play MP3 CDs, many others do not. I posted a few friends with the .wav vs. .mp3 debate. My friend Mellissa the librarian replies:<i>The librarian says .wav fil...

formats

If we go with WAVE files (commercial format audio CDs) then we'll need to get special 4-CD jewel cases not available in most office supplies. Here's an example: http://www.yesbuy.net/jewel-case-quad-cd-jewel-case.html They are constructed to handle artwork differently too. Basically there are tray c...

Hi kayray! Yes, we want maximum usability. But, I'm of the opinion that the space savings is well worth any slight drop in users. Would you be more likely to print and burn an audio book that required 4 inserts, 4 tray cards, 4 face labels, and four burn sessions, or one of each? '' I'll wager...

kri: The catalog page looks great! Thanks for your work. :D As for multi-disc labelling, that's a challenge. I'll have to mull it over a bit more, thinking of clarity and simplicity. First I'd suggest NOT burning WAVE files, if that's what you were saying, because of file size. I think the 128 MP3 f...

Thanks kri, for tweaking the catalog to include thumbnails. As for multiple covers for the same title, I though that with the size of the LV catalog we'd want to get them all "covered" before encouraging multiples. It takes hours and hours to do a complete design with a proper tracklist, credits, tr...

Cover and package design ready

Hello folks: I've started designing covers for LibriVox titles, and Whitman is at the top of my list. This design uses public domain photography and is offered with a limited CC license to prevent piracy. I hope you all enjoy this design as much as I enjoyed creating it. For now, the PDFs are availa...
