Re: ~SOLO: The Octopus by Frank Norris (1870-1902) - ek

Coincidentally, I'm right in the middle of this book and enjoying it a lot, so I'd be happy to go back and cover it from the beginning as a DPL if that's alright with you two. :)

Re: Can you recommend a book?

When I feel down, I always read one of the Jeeves stories by P.G. Wodehouse.

We have two on LibriVox, and I can recommend them both, but I'd start with Right Ho, Jeeves first.

Re: Librivox Book Club: The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson

I'm a little bogged down with audiobooks right now, but I'll try to get around to this recording. (I have Fer-de-Lance by Rex Stout and The Inimitable Jeeves from the library, as well as MP3 audiobooks of Henning Mankell's Faceless Killers and On the Origin of Species by Charles Darwin. Albeit the l...

Re: LibriVox Book Club: Schedule and Suggestions NEW THREAD

I'd like to suggest South! The Story of Shackleton's Last Expedition, 1914-1917 by Ernest Shackleton (nonfiction, adventure; 15.5 hrs). It's a story of the determined and heroic struggle for survival after the HMS Endurance got caught and crushed in the pack ice off of Antarctic waters, including an...

Will do! I hope to have the PLing wrapped up by Monday. Sunday I'll have to skip because I have a ticket to the Long Beach Opera.

Congratulations on finishing!

Re: Congress may re-copyright Public Domain

I disagree with your reading of the text. I see it as simply explicitly limiting the copyright terms to what they would have been if none of the three stated reasons had caused the works to go into the public domain, rather than allowing the would-be copyright holders to copyright the works starting...

Re: Congress may re-copyright Public Domain

I'm discussing this with a legal eagle in another forum, and he's read the opinion in Golan v. Holder , which states in part that the 1994 Uruguay Round Agreement Act: [E]xtended copyright to works that garnered protection in their countries of origin, but had no right to exclusivity in the United S...

Re: SOLO (Adventure) Mr. Justice Raffles by E. W. Hornung -

Chapters 8-11 are PL OK! P.S. I took the liberty of correcting the title of chapter 12, which is "A Midsummer Night's Work", not "A Midsummer Night's Dream". It's correct in the chapter heading within the body of the text, but someone made a mistake in the table of content...

Re: SOLO (Adventure) Mr. Justice Raffles by E. W. Hornung -

Chapter 4 is OK.

Chapter 5 has a section repeated twice at 12:33: "That's an aneroid under the lamp-bracket."

Chapter 6 is OK.

Chapter 7 is OK.
