Re: Try this next time you have word counts to do

Hi,

Sadly userscripts.org is no more, but happily some kind soul has made the scripts available at an alternative site:

Re: Little-represented languages: a question of PLing

Alternatively the project could agree on a reduced level of PL. From the PL FAQ these are the things that standard PL covers. It seems that only 1), 7) and possibly 3) would require the PL to actually understand the language of the recording. 1) Do the intro and disclaimer match the instructions in ...

Re: Strange or tragic historical stories

This reminds me of the "Horrible Histories" TV series that my children used to watch. On each show they had a section entitled "Stupid Deaths", for example: Earl Sigurd the Mighty, Viking ruler of Orkney, cut off an enemy’s head and hung it as a trophy from his horse’s saddle. Un...

Re: Compress or de-amp?

Perhaps you're getting confused between: compression of files - e.g. exporting a wav as an mp3 to get a smaller file size by, effectively, throwing away bits which most ears won't notice, compression of dynamic range - e.g. the audacity compressor effect, which reduces the range of a recording by ra...

Re: I'm Rich!!!!

I absolutely hate these letters, just because I know someone will fall for it. But, I always wondered if you could mess with the sender, sending him/her false information just to see what would happen... There are people who do this to waste the spammers' time and resources. It's known as scam-bait...

Re: [YG ADULT]Aunt Jane's Nieces on Vacation by L. Frank Bau

Re: One Book a Week Club 2013

... 2013 books read for fun 1. Connie Willis, Blackout (currently reading). Ooh Blackout. That caught my eye last year, but I haven't got around to reading it yet. Do let us know if you enjoy it. Also, Elizabeth I loved your recording of the Fifth Queen. I just had to read all 3 after listening to ...

Re: One Book a Week Club 2013

I think I've read all of these this year, though one or two may have been the tail end of last year. It's so hard to keep track! 1. A Delicate Truth by John le Carre Timescape by Gregory Benford The Architects by Stefan Heym Reading Chekhov: A Critical Journey by Janet Malcolm 5. Here and There: Col...

Agree with this.

I'm struggling to think of a single instance where I would want to listen to someone reading a TOC. Maybe in an Insomnia Collection

Re: [not LV]LibriVox App for Windows 8

There are a lot of Old Time Radio recordings on archive.org and Asimov's Foundation is one of them. I have listened to it myself. It is marked as Public Domain on archive.org but I don't know the reason why. http://archive.org/details/AsimovIsaac I think in this case it is all above-board. Maybe the...
