Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread

I’m setting up Audacity for the first time and here’s my current problem: The recording level and playback level tools are not displaying the green bars or any sort of numerical values at any time. See image. Mac version 3.4.2 https://i.postimg.cc/pmn23QxC/temp-Imagep-UFEHC.jpg That's happening to ...

Re: Reading screen and file format

I will offer one caveat to this. There's one text format that I think readers should avoid like the plague, if you have a text from archive.org, and that is the "Full Text" link. This is a plain-text format that is easy to copy and paste, and so it may be tempting if you like to mark up y...

Oh, I can't take credit for that code. It was written before I was born. :)

(Incidentally, the author of that code, John Wasser, hangs around the Arduino forum these days.)

Re: Reading speed visualizer

Nice! Thanks for checking on it. I do have one suggestion: can you add a way to pause a bit after each comma? I pause about half as long after a comma as I do after a period. Also, I wonder if it would be helpful to estimate how long each word should be spoken for (basically, more syllables = spoken...

I get a "Forbidden" and "You don't have permission to access this resource." error message when I access the page. Did you take it down?

Re: Please change catalog name

When a new claimant makes a claim, they can tell the BC their preferred catalog name (and the BC can ask for it), at which time they will enter the brand new reader into our system with their preferred name. Right, and the BC in many of the projects I've seen do ask readers for their preferred cata...

Re: Please change catalog name

You have received an answer to your first claim, where you are asked to provide a catalog name. You can tell him right there: https://forum.librivox.org/viewtopic.php?p=2115014#p2115014 What? That post specifically says to post a thread in this forum (Need Help? Got Advice?) to ask an admin to chan...

Re: Password change

If you use Chrome (I'm assuming Chrome is what's filling in your password, since it is for me), you can see your saved passwords. Go to Settings > Autofill > Passwords.

Other browsers are probably similar.

Re: Pirated productions

I still think it's kind of immoral for people to be selling things other people made to be given away freely to make money for themselves instead and ripping off people who might not have known they could get it for free Again, how is it "ripping off people" if the people buying it do so ...

Re: Pirated productions

You apparently misunderstood my complaint, completely. What is your complaint then? That people are voluntarily paying for something that they could have (and probably would have) gotten for free, if they only knew about the free option? Frankly, I have no problem with this, and I don't see anythin...

Re: Pirated productions

Indeed. I realize it's completely legal ...... but quite unethical! I spent 16 months recording and editing that work so people could access it freely, with no charge. But people can still access it for free here at LibriVox. Somebody selling it for $29.95 doesn't suddenly make it unavailable here.

Re: I said, "Row!", and let's not have a row about it.

Some of this also has to do with the history and evolution of the language, and with when/where the poem was written. There are many rhymes from, say, Shakespeare, that we would consider slant rhymes, but that were true rhyme when he wrote them. Our pronunciations have shifted since then, and not u...
