Looks like the Goble is all set, not requiring any further attention from me, right?

Ok, here's Master of None. I still have issues with Audacity where I hear a buzz that isn't there when I burn a CD of the mp3. Or at least it wasn't on other stuff. I didn't burn one of this, so I don't know whether the sound is ok. I'm also not entirely pleased with the way I read it, but unless PL...

Audacity troubles on Ubuntu: sample rate, buzz, and no MIDI

I'm using Audacity 1.3.4-beta on Ubuntu 8.04. Currently, I can only record on 44.1kHz, but I can only play on Audacity by setting the project sample rate to 48kHz, and I haven't found any way to play MIDI at all. There's a buzzing noise when I play things back on Audacity that isn't there when I exp...

Putting my own works in the public domain

I've made up a couple songs for my kids, and written a short story many years ago that doesn't make me cringe too badly on re-reading. I don't expect (or really want) to be commercial about any of it, so I might as well put it in the public domain. What's the best way to do so? Can I just record it ...

It's hard to choose, with so many. Since there's a decent chance one won't match, it's probably less hassle to do a spare and get it taken care of than to come back for a re-try. (And besides, having another to choose from after recording would be nice for me.) Would you try to convert Crown Him wit...

I just recorded Master of None by Lloyd Neil Goble. I'm not editing or checking volume tonight; it probably won't be ready to upload for a few days. But here's the url of the text, so I won't have to find it again: http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/27383 Can I put a story I wrote into the public domain...

Is it possible for people not using Windows to sing hymns for this project? I'm on ubuntu, and I don't see any version of NoteWorthy for it. Of course, I can see the words on the regular html page, and I can see that the tune name is the same as the one I know. And my hymnal has copyright notices on...

The concern is that I did use a list from a copyrighted source, since it didn't occur to me at the time that it might create a copyright issue, and it's not identical to any I've found already in the public domain. The one on Wikipedia says "Burma" and the one I used says "Myanmar", it lists the Kor...

Speaking of putting the song in the public domain, are the names of countries and alphabetical order still in the public domain even though I got them off a copyrighted map?

There's music on here too? I'd love to do some singing if there are projects ongoing and my temperamental Audacity setup can handle it.

Ok, I'll read it as pounds as planned. Thanks.

My apologies for the slow-connection thing. Unfortunately, the text version is somewhat of a mess. It seems to be OCR that didn't do too well, rather than a human-transcribed version. Who knows, maybe the audio will help someone type one up.

The song is very new. I finished making it up a few weeks ago, and the countries are current as far as I know. I used the list from a world map that I have on the wall in my son's room, probably a couple years old. (He's asleep in there now, so I'm not going to look at the copyright date on it.) I p...

Currency abbreviated "l."?

The unit of currency is just abbreviated with a lower-case L and a period. It's in A General History of the Pyrates , so I assume it's pounds. But there are also livres and lira that begin with L, and probably some others; and the piracy in question is international so it's possible he's referring t...

Blame the microphone

I made up a tune for a list of all the countries in the world, and I wanted to record it. Normally, my recorded voice sounds like that of a five-year-old girl who has smoked three packs a day for 96 years, with the equalizer set to "chipmunk". Pretty much par for the course, same as anyone. But with...
