chaps. 30 and 31 are now up. I'm also going to get to work on the descriptive note, having had a very interesting reply from a colleague who's a historian of Britain, about how the Church of England handled difficult cases like this.

25 and 16 are up, both fairly short. I must say that though I realize we are around 1880 here, and thus in the midst of High Victorianism at its highest, it seems a bit much for a girl to be ashamed of herself as "unmaidenly" because she asks the local vicar for the source of a poem he quoted. There indeed women who climbed -- Annie Peck was one of them in, I think. the Alps, the Andes and perhaps elsewhere. And the clothes in which both men and women climbed look very clumsy today.
