For the author's Wikipedia page, is it OK if I enter Peck's page? Perhaps the simplest solution to the problem would be to catalog the author for LV purposes as Lyndon Orr (Harry Thurston Peck, 1856-1914). That would explain the situation instantly. Otherwise, if an author named Orr was linked to t...

I often feel that we are better off not knowing writers' identities. Alas, the abovequoted practical advice from "Men Who Marry and Men Who Do Not" becomes very sad indeed once we know what lay in store for its author less than a decade later. According to Wikipedia : Peck was dismissed fr...

The truth is revealed by the Marion Daily Star for 13 April 1911:
It developed in a lawsuit that “Lyndon Orr,” who writes so entertainingly, and perhaps truthfully, about “the great affinities of history,” is really Professor Harry Thurston Peck.
Peck was born in 1856 and died in 1914.

A recent article refers to Lyndon Orr as a pseudonym: In 1905… a Cosmopolitan essay, entitled "Men Who Marry and Men Who Do Not," appeared, describing the new type of bachelor on the American scene…. Its author, Lyndon Orr, is a conflation of the feminized Ora and the masculinized Orrin, o...

Another possibility might be the World English Bible ( Old Testament and New Testament ). The form read on LibriVox was translated by Michael Paul Johnson (with some assistants) between 1997 and 2005, so its English is more recent than almost anything on the LibriVox website. Johnson's translation s...

Yes, Charley's Aunt was first published in 1892 (NY & London: Samuel French) and went through many reprints before 1923. It ought to be on the Internet somewhere. But I've searched repeatedly for some months (ever since seeing it mentioned in another LV thread), and I've never been able to find ...

Might I venture to suggest some modifications to the Wikipedia summary? For instance, how about this: The Taming of the Shrew is an early comedy by William Shakespeare believed to have been written between 1590 and 1594. The play begins with an Induction in which a drunken tinker named Sly is tricke...

Yes, it does seem a crazy thing to do, doesn't it? But when you have time to look at the text, you'll see there's no problem. 4th Girl has only one speech, not adjacent to 3rd Girl, & the two roles are similar in style & character. 1st Girl couldn't be combined with 2nd, or 2nd with 3rd. But...

Here's the third girl part PL (3rd Girl) OK Length: 02:49 I'd like to claim the fourth girl part too? actually, after i did the third girl, i realized how short the part was, and i got a bit overexcited and went ahead and recorded it. Perfectly natural reaction, in my personal view! (Even on stage,...

George Baker's dates are 1781-1851. (Curiously, there was a famous British historian called George Baker who also lived 1781-1851. I wonder how often that happens.)

Worse still, I've gradually slipped from "I won't" through "I shan't" to the point where I'm now most likely to say "I shall not" or even "I should be inclined not to..." You need to remember that for many years I've spent much more time with old books than wi...

I've thought long and hard about this thread. Yes, I can appreciate that sometimes an "outside" summary-writer may be necessary. At the same time, I have two sorts of uneasiness about the idea. I'm concerned, not by anything that has been posted in this thread, but by some possible side-ef...

I'm delighted to see this wonderful project going ahead. Ayala's Angel has always been one of my very favourite Trollope novels... it's the kind of book that keeps coming down off the shelf for re-reading. And I know other people who feel the same way about it. Thank you so much for doing it!

PL of section 5 is fine except for two small points: 1. Maybe, at the very start of the intro, the first word "Section" catches the microphone fractionally late. (But this could easily be patched, if necessary, from 00:24, where the word is read again.) 2. At 00:28, the title "Book th...
