Thanks for the review. I reset the bitrate to 128kbps. Also I deleted the clicks; they were mouse clicks when I opened the text of the sentence I was reading.

I think I fixed it. I went to Preferences, Tracks, then changed the Default Waveform Scale to Linear (amp) from Logrithmic (db). The scale now reads from 0 to 1. Maybe this will help someone else who is a lost newbie.

Thanks, I should have said that I'm using a Mac Book air. I tried right clicking and nothing changes. I can't find the "linear" setting.

I'm trying to get the setting correct for a test recording. The instructions on the Wiki page say the record levels (the wave) should be from .5 to 1.
