Anyway - feel free to contact me on the e mail program here - I'll get a notification and come back to it.

I'm immersed in a bit of work right now, so I can't hang in here all night.

Thanks again folks for your interest in this topic. I think we're all learning a lot from it.

Well, like I said - my pronunciation is terrible too. I fumble with words a lot - that's one of the reason I don't record my readings. One of the reasons I enjoy listening to audio books/stories is because I learn pronunciation that way. I actually write and use words to find out later I've been say...

Place names are some of the worst, and that's a fact! You'd think Buena Vista, Virginia would be pronounced like... well, like that. But no - it's BYOO-na Vista! Methinks the "locals" sometimes butcher the locality name, and then get offended when people don't pronounce it right. N...

I completely understand about pronunciation. The book that I am currently listening to has, in 1 of the chapters, a list of famous Artists. The person reading that particular chapter mispronounced nearly every Artist's name. As an art history student, it upset me greatly to hear such common names (...

Hey! Thanks to all of you for your replies - and thanks to Penny for tipping me off that I have messages here - didn't mean to be rude and run off. It's just that life (and work) gets in the way, eh? I'll go over the posts that have been made since my last visit and reply to them. Thanks again, to a...

Uh... IMVHO, it's the different accents that make LibriVox what it is. I, as a DPL and also as an editor for a couple of non-recording projects, really enjoy putting together different accents and all. It is really touching to hear people who do not know English as their native language try and rea...

How about EVA - I've forgotten her last name - she read a lot of chapters in War & Peace. I'm not sure of her nationality - it could be German, Dutch . . . just not sure.

She has a 'definite' accent - and it's a joy to listen to her.

She is my favourite reader here at LibriVox.

Thanks to all for your responses on this - no - it is NOT the accent I have a problem with. It's the pronunciations. I know LivriVox doesn't insist on good pronunciation, but I think it should be 'encouraged'. Accents are lovely . . . I always enjoy listening to someone with an accent. But to hear e...

I commend you for giving a damn; I am so aggravated by listening to readers who do not pronounce words and names correctly, assume they do (or have licence to re-write the language) and don't bother finding out how to pronounce.

On pronunciation . . .

I'm wording this very carefully, as I know how touchy people can be . . . I do not want to hurt anyone's feelings, so I won't mention the name of the book or the name of the person reading. In a certain book, chapters [edited by admin] are all read by a certain person. She has a lovely voice - nothi...

I don't have a good voice for recording, but I will listen as the files are being made.

This site is wonderful - I love doing books by audio, and reading the text at the same time.

Kudos to the readers here!

I've been listening to all of you since I began War & Peace on the book discussions at Barnes n' Noble & Matt's Blog . . . You do a grand job - I came in here looking for Book 10 and am avidly listening. BTW, Eva . . . I've heard your voice so often now, I feel like I 'know' you . . . if I were rich...
