Books by Talbot Baines Reed?

Wouldn't mind doing one of his books. Lightly humourous British School Boy stuff.

Re: ~[Group]Commentary on 1 Corinthians, Vol. 1 -John Calvin

We need to remember that, in this case, the footnotes are not actually Calvin's writing! I would not propose this if these were 'real' footnotes.

Re: ~[Group]Commentary on 1 Corinthians, Vol. 1 -John Calvin

Are the footnotes incredibly utterly important? Would it make sense without the? :) They make sense, yes. And most of the time when you are preparing a sermon or something you don't quote them. But every once in a while they do make a difference. Take the one I just did. Did you see that Calvin did...

Re: ~[Group]Commentary on 1 Corinthians, Vol. 1 -John Calvin

No. I am suggesting that the footnotes for section 23 would be section 24. They could even have two readers. How would you read footnotes anyway? In line with the text? The understandibility would be shot to pieces! I am suggestion, or proposing as a possibility, that the footnotes come all at the e...

Re: ~[Group]Commentary on 1 Corinthians, Vol. 1 -John Calvin

Ummm... I think there is a technical fix to what you are saying. Have two files. One is I Cor 7:1-3, and the other is I Cor 7:1-3 - footnotes. Then it would be trivial to produce two versions.

Re: Calvin's Commentaries

Do you want to BC this? In theory, I'd love to. However, since I don't really know what all that involves and the time commitment I'd be making, and since I am in the midst of a busy season of my life, I think I would be content to contribute with as little obligation as possible. These are actuall...

Re: Calvin's Commentaries

ccel.org is OK to use. :) Thanks Tricia! Yes, ccel.org has a two-volume transcription of Corinthians , the first covering chapters 1-14; the second, the rest of First and all of Second Corinthians. It is segmented in packets of a few verses (three to ten-ish) and I ran word-counts on two of them, b...

Re: Calvin's Commentaries

Some are bigger, some are smaller. I think groups of verses would work too. Maybe I should organize it? It would be my first try. If I remember right from my last perusal of Calvin's Commentaries, they were organized by groups of verses and then broken down into a verse-by-verse exposition. For exa...

Re: Calvin's Commentaries

Been doing some maths here: If we assume about 30,000 words are notes (so won't be read, though I assume it's probably more/less than that) and each verse is 2000 words, that'd be 120 sections. With those (very rough) statistics in mind, I'd probably make it 2 verses a section. Cat :) Von: I think ...

Re: Calvin's Commentaries

Sorry, I assumed the verses were small (I can't access the text on my tablet). Are all of the verses of this size, or are the rest smaller (maybe two or three verses a section, with this one on it's own, would work best) Cat :) Some are bigger, some are smaller. I think groups of verses would work ...

Re: Calvin's Commentaries

Don't split it verse by verse. Then you'd have lots and lots and lots of short sections, which are a pain to catalog. (Or so I've heard...) I'd split them into about 1500-2000 words each (about 10-15 minutes). That should be OK for a newbie (my first book chapter had over 3000 words, and I coped) I...

Re: Calvin's Commentaries

If we are using a lot of newbies probably a verse by verse would be good, a bit shorter chunks. Altho we are talking about Calvin :)

Re: Calvin's Commentaries

DaveDoug,

Why would we have to start elsewhere? Obviously if you want to MC the project you can start where you wish. I was just picking a spot that interested me, and that has some passages that challenge the American Church.

Did the KJV project necessarily start in Genesis or Matthew?
