Re: [SOLO]"Charles Dickens and Music" by James T. Lightwood - brrot

Chapter I is ready for PL. I corrected some errors in the Gutenberg version: P. 10 (approx) 12:56 Regarding the indented passage: “One night a gentleman visitor . . . they always take a turn.” The only way to make sense of this passage is to realize that the sentence “Dickens found the whole ordeal ...

Re: [SOLO]"Charles Dickens and Music" by James T. Lightwood - brrot

That's a relief. Chapter 1 includes a quote of the song "Buffalo Gals." Even though the musical notation is not included, I'm planning to sing this one, because it's a song I know. I did some research and found a citation from an 1890 newspaper article (via Wikipedia). I will sing the melo...

Re: [SOLO]"Charles Dickens and Music" by James T. Lightwood - brrot

That's Great! As I begin work on Chapter 1, I need some guidance. Footnotes. Some of the footnotes are pretty long, and many interrupt in the middle of a sentence of the main text. In some cases, it will be very difficult for a listener to "keep track" of what is happening in the beginning...

Re: ~[SOLO]"Charles Dickens and Music" by James T. Lightwood - brrot

I am getting the picture that this process can get more complicated than we want. It is now looking to me that it would be best for me to sing only the songs that include musical notation (I think we are guaranteed these melodies are PD), and read all the others like they are poems. What do you thin...

Re: ~[SOLO]"Charles Dickens and Music" by James T. Lightwood - brrot

When I need to present a melody to be sure it is PD, would I attach it to a forum post, or is there another way to present it? I do not see an "attach" option here in the forum.

Re: ~[SOLO]"Charles Dickens and Music" by James T. Lightwood - brrot

Thank you for the explanation. I'm not having any luck finding the copyright dates on melodies. Many of these seem to be folk tunes, which means nobody is really sure when they originated, or who composed them. (The only thing I know about copyright law as it applies to music is that it's tricky.) H...

[SOLO]"Charles Dickens and Music" by James T. Lightwood - brrot

Charles Dickens and Music, by James T. Section 5 is ready for PL. https://librivox.org/uploads/kitty/mymusicallife_05_damrosch_128kb.mp3 30:40 According to the sources I've checked, the clarinetist mentioned on page 72, Muhlfeld, is spelled with an umlaut on the "u." So I pronounced it that way, even though Damrosch (or his ed...
