Can we avoid Juvenalia?

Can we avoid using the term juvenalia as a genre? This is derogatory. It is used by English literature departments to dismiss anything that doesn't fit "proper" fiction. Gamebooks, kids' books, pulp fiction, TV tie ins, are all dismissed by the English literature cognoscenti as juvenalia. ...

Re: Weirdest background noise

Fortunately I have got electricity back after the enormous storms of about two weeks ago. Sadly not everyone has; the winds ripped out power poles and some people's electricity isn't back. That was at times as strong as a typhoon.

Re: Weirdest background noise

More weird background noise! Tonight the cicadas, critters like crickets but making an electronicy noise, are singing. Evidently only guy cicadas sing. Maybe they are cicada baritones.

Re: (Kids Fiction) The Outdoor Girls in a Motor Car by Laura Lee Hope - m8b1

OK, I agree; I was very wary of using reverb. It isn't normally something that would be used in a recording. Next time I will make sure that I am always closer to the microphone so I don't need such corrections in the first place. I did use the minimum reverb that I could. Now I can say a few things...

Re: Hi!

Welcome! In theory any audio software can be used to make recordings. Most people use Audacity and Librivox has many tutorials on it. You would shudder at my audio transgressions!

Re: (Kids Fiction) The Outdoor Girls in a Motor Car by Laura Lee Hope - m8b1

OK, I don't pretend to be any expert at this. First, I deleted the stumbles or repeats at the suggested points. Then I went over the whole track. I noticed that I must have stepped back from the microphone for about 30 seconds at 3:30 in. I added a little reverb there. Then I found the quiet parts a...

Re: ~[GROUP] Astronomy: The Science of the Heavenly Bodies by David Todd - lt

Thank you! Btw as someone who used to run an astronomy library, the most interesting astronomy book [not PD sadly] was LOngitude by Dava Sobel, about how the "longitude problem" was solved in nautical navigation.

I will enjoy doing this chapter 34!

Re: (Kids Fiction) The Outdoor Girls in a Motor Car by Laura Lee Hope - m8b1

Thank you. I agree that it was a bit quiet at places; even though it was for dramatic effect compression could help make it louder or clearer. Gives me a bit more learning with such after effects. Then I will upload again later today. No shame in not getting it right the first time; I guess that eve...

May I claim Section 34, Life in Other Worlds ?

I used to belong to an astronomy society. We had a library. I don't think that we had this book.

I used to do table top D&D a long time ago. But my main focus was reading books. My biggest D&D achievement was being turned to stone by a gargoyle. That made my participation in the Ravenloft campaign extremely difficult.

Re: (Kids Fiction) The Outdoor Girls in a Motor Car by Laura Lee Hope - m8b1

Uploaded at: https://librivox.org/uploads/m8b1/outdoorgirlsmotor_11_hope_128kb.mp3 Some points 1. I tried to zoom and change the typographical error. But to change one syllable needed Mandrake the Magician. I gave up. 2. Said Tonneau as in Parisian French. 3. applied medium noise reduction to all. S...

Re: (Kids Fiction) The Outdoor Girls in a Motor Car by Laura Lee Hope - m8b1

OK, this is what I have left to do: 1. add in intro bit about Librivox 2. add in outro bit about end of chapter 11. 3. Change the bit near the end that had wrong transcription. 4. denoise background noise. 5. test and upload link. May be the dumbest question. But how do I add in my intro bit at the ...
