Re: [SOLO] Pauper, thief, and convict - Archer - ans
Thanks, Laura; chapter one edited and re-uploaded. The chapter/section mix-up comes from my estimates of chapter lengths. There's a chance that chapter 3 will be too long for one recording, so might have to be in two pieces, sections 3 (chapter 3, part 1) and 4 (chapter 3, part 2). I forgot to end m...

Re: [SOLO] Pauper, thief, and convict - Archer - ans
I've uploaded the first chapter. It's the introduction, and is rather dry. Later chapters are more descriptive and involving.

Re: [COMPLETE] Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese - Reid-ans
Thank you, Anne, that looks good. Did you decide against including a file of pictures from the text? It doesn't matter if you did, but I just wondered if you'd forgotten.

Re: [SOLO] Pauper, thief, and convict - Archer
Laura (lvictoria) has volunteered to be the DPL. I downloaded a pdf of this book some years ago, but forgot to note the source. In format, it seems to be a google document, but I couldn'd find it online now. The Victorian London site has a reformatted text (which I can't assume is PD), whose first c...

[SOLO] Pauper, thief, and convict - Archer - ans
The pauper, the thief, and the convict, by Thomas Archer (1830 - 1893) "Bare, unpicturesque, and sordid as are the conditions of poverty, there are sights in London which everybody may and should see - sights which are sometimes touched upon in newspaper articles, or in the chapters of sensati...

Re: Noise Reduction Issues
I agree; that's the ideal. I have lots of unedited recordings with "Blast, more traffic!" and re-recorded phrases in them. But I think the OP can recover reasonable sounding recordings from those two files by cleaning just the affected areas.

Re: [SOLO] Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese - Reid-ans
Yes, it was an interesting visit. I think the next one is going to be a bit less pleasant; I've been hopping through it, making page counts, and it's harrowing stuff.

Re: [SOLO] Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese - Reid-ans
Thanks, Laura; chapter thirteen edited and re-uploaded. The last! And my thanks to you and to Annise for all your help. Next Victorian London book starts before the end of the week, then it's some Edith Nesbit. EDIT: Annise, I've added "Samuel Johnson" to the keywords list, as he turns up ...

Re: [SOLO] Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese - Reid-ans
I hadn't been thinking of a cover yet! I just loved the look of the interior of the pub.
Which reminds me, Anne; thanks for the lovely cover for Wonderful London.

Re: Noise Reduction Issues
How does this sound? It's only about 15 seconds long. https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/lollywillowes_NR_py.mp3 This is your 02 recording with noise around 20min 10secs. As you were trying to remove a particular sound, instead of sampling the room silence from the end of your recording, I sampled t...

Re: [SOLO] Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese - Reid-ans
Thanks, Laura; chapter 12 edited and re-uploaded. I feel a bit self-conscious about taking photographs inside buildings, so I looked for images on-line: here are some nice photos: https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo/old-cheshire-cheese-pub.html?sortBy=relevant I'm definitely getting in there! ..and I ...

Re: [SOLO] Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese - Reid-ans
Thanks, Laura; I've uploaded chapter twelve. I did wander round the area on Friday. Unfortunately, the map made it look a lot more interesting than it was in reality; it's now all glass, concrete and steel. Dr Johnson's house in Gough Square was one of the few brick buildings still standing. I ran o...

Re: [SOLO] Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese - Reid-ans
Thanks, Laura; I've edited and re-uploaded chapter eleven.
I'm waiting for a delivery today, but if nothing happens tomorrow (and the weather's okay), I'll go to there and wander round the pub .... Gough Square, too! I'll take my camera.
