Re: Do you keep all your audio files?

I'm perhaps a bit extreme: I keep both a flac file and the mp3. The flac file to allow lossless editing, if needed later, and the mp3 to save me the bother of recreating it if I want to listen to it or give it to a friend.

I have plenty of space, as I have a dedicated external hard drive.

Letters of a V.A.D.

I was looking up the VAD bbreviation on wikipedia - Voluntary Aid Detachment. They were volunteers for auxiliary nursing care, whose best-known contribution was during the First World War ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voluntary_Aid_Detachment ). There's a list on the wikipedia page of VADs who had...

No, no, not I!

She has a very similar style to M.R. James; I wonder if James knew these stories.

Re: [SS-GROUP] Stories Weird and Wonderful, by J E Muddock - icequeen

Hello, Ann,
May I claim section 15, A Night with the Dead, please?

The start of the Intro mentions "Story 15", the end of the Intro mention "Chapter 15" and the Outro "End of Story 15" ... should I make them all "Story 15 or are you happy as it is?

Re: [SOLO] London Labour etc., Vol 1 -Mayhew-ans

I did that in another project and was told how to fix it. I've dragged section 16 back to its right place (and section 39, which had moved to the bottom of the list, too).

I noticed his "rubbish", too. I think he let his feelings slip through his objectivity!

Re: [SOLO] London Labour etc., Vol 1 -Mayhew-ans

Thanks, Gill; don't worry about the missing time stamp. It was easy to find the spot. Section 52 uploaded. From "Of the Capital and Income ..." PDF 339-344 / text 306-309 Another section which just consists of statistics; I'll leave a note about it in the summary, so listeners can miss it out. There...

Re: Going solo

Not really; the universe of pre-1923 books is too vast. But you might like to look in the part of the forum headed "Book Suggestions" ... and you will usually see a note in the thread for the individual suggestions, saying whether someone has taken on the project. .... or the other way round, find s...

Re: [SOLO] London Labour etc., Vol 1 -Mayhew-ans

Section 51 uploaded. From "Of the Street Sellers of Fine Arts" - PDF 334-339 / text 301-306 Total so far, approx. 32:08:53 There's what I think is a typo at 29.58, which I've corrected, at the start of para 3, col 2, p 305. The text is "A man who, until the charges ...", but I think it should be ".....

Re: compressor, normalize, clipping?

I get a lot of variation in amplitude when I record, too. I've worked out compressor and normalise/deamplify settings which help to clear it, though. The compressor option "compress based on peaks" does the work: compressor threshold -14, noise floor -40, ratio 5:1, attack time 0.2, release time 1, ...
