Re: Music - What are you listening to?

Stefan Grossman, John Renbourn, Sandy Denny, Davey Graham - for folk and Blues;

Tangerine Dream and Edgar Froese, shakuhachi music - for more abstract sounds.

Penguin Café Orchestra for fun, and to draw my attention in.

Re: OPEN [Dram Read] Story of the Amulet, E. Nesbit-ans

Thanks, Devorah. EDIT: you're right: a very odd noise over that "said Cyril". I've no idea what caused that ... I must have jumped past it, assuming it was okay, when I was editing. It's lucky you have so many "said Cyril" 's to choose from! Beth, I'm unsubscribing. I'll look in occasionally, but if...

Re: Removing spikes with the compressor

Thanks for your interest, all of you. Here's a short sample (seven seconds), unedited in any way. https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/Mayhew_py.mp3 I'll go through your posts and add comments to this one shortly. EDIT: Thanks again. You've got me experimenting with the compressor. I've just tried pla...

Removing spikes with the compressor

Here's a strip of recording before and after compression: (I don't know how to get the image to display within a post - it's less than 9kb) http://www.mediafire.com/file/a363m6y4c7bltnw/Comp_py.jpg The compressor values for that second image are: threshold -16, Noise -40, Ratio 5:1. I've experimente...

Re: Other Hobbies?

Yes, I'm a sourdough user, too. I have San Francisco starter running for my white bread, and a really active rye starter for all-rye (especially "Borodinsky" bread) and wholemeal wheat breads.

Re: Other Hobbies?

Playing board games (solo and with friends), learning (gradually) to play banjo and guitar, bread making (on hold at the moment, as I've moved into a flat with a gas oven with appalling heat control and distribution).

Re: OPEN [Dram Read] Story of the Amulet, E. Nesbit-ans

It was my pleasure ... though I realised, when I was editing, how many times I've said "Jane said", "Anthea said" .... and so on.

I don't remember reading this one when I was a child. These books could easily be classed as science fiction.

Re: A Travesty Against Cheese

One of my local supermarkets sells a strong cheddar with chives and chopped pickled silverskin onions in it. Delicious. It goes well with beer.

Here's the narrator for chapter 12: https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/amulet_12_narrator.mp3

(27.37)

I wasn't able to open the google doc for the chapter in the magic window this evening, so I've not checked my recording against your text. Watch out for mistakes!

Thanks, Beth; I saw that we'd lost our prooflistener. I hope I don't take up too much of your time.

Here's the narrator, chapter 11: https://librivox.org/uploads/annise/amulet_11_narrator.mp3
