Re: [SOLO] London Labour etc., Vol 1 -Mayhew-ans

Section 51 uploaded. From "Of the Street Sellers of Fine Arts" - PDF 334-339 / text 301-306 Total so far, approx. 32:08:53 There's what I think is a typo at 29.58, which I've corrected, at the start of para 3, col 2, p 305. The text is "A man who, until the charges ...", but I think it should be ".....

Re: compressor, normalize, clipping?

I get a lot of variation in amplitude when I record, too. I've worked out compressor and normalise/deamplify settings which help to clear it, though. The compressor option "compress based on peaks" does the work: compressor threshold -14, noise floor -40, ratio 5:1, attack time 0.2, release time 1, ...

Re: "Yanny" or "Laurel"

Odd. I hear the original recording (and the high pitched one) as "laurel", but the low-pitched one as "yearly".

Re: [SOLO] London Labour & the London Poor-Mayhew-ans

Thank you very much, Anne; I thought I'd better use Gill's solo thread initially, as my comment led on from what's going on there.

Re: ~SOLO London Labour and the London Poor by Henry Mayhew (1812-1887) - lt

Anne, I agree with you that we need a volume-to-volume numbering system. I hadn't imagined that anyone would be recording the later volumes, when I started. The file names for volume one are "londonlabour_###_mayhew_128kb" at the moment. Would it be simple to change the existing filenames to "london...

Re: [SOLO] London Labour & the London Poor-Mayhew-ans

Thanks, Gill. Section 50 edited and re-uploaded. They do sometimes have to put a lot of work into evading unfair laws. I think Henry Mayhew has considerable sympathy for the people he's interviewing. I remember his (carefully underplayed) disgust at the behaviour of the police in making street trade...

Re: ~SOLO London Labour and the London Poor by Henry Mayhew (1812-1887) - lt

Gill, of course you're welcome to my summary from volume 1. Thinking of which, the heading of your project that's displayed in the forum overview doesn't show Henry's volume number. Would it be worth shortening the heading somehow, so it can be seen as volume 2? It would be great if LibriVox could g...

Re: SOLO London Labour and the London Poor by Henry Mayhew (1812-1887)

Have a lovely time!

I always have trouble deciding on key words for my projects; I hope you don't mind that I've stolen some of yours to go into my volume of "London Labour".

Re: Multi-volume works still to be completed

I don't know if these books count, as the first volume hasn't been catalogued yet (and won't be for some time!). I'm still recording the first volume in Henry Mayhew's "London Labour and the London Poor". It's quite a long work, but the language flows easily and there are lots of verbatim interviews...

... might even be a bit further; some of the sections are longer than I was expecting. I wonder if this is going to be the biggest solo that we've done?

Thanks for your help, Annise,
