It was my son in junior high school in Canada, who told me America was named after Vespucci, whom he thought to be a mate on Columbus' ship.

Thank you MAS and Krista. On to a more wholesome diet though I enjoyed the ironic tone of this writer. He may well have been on some of the very ships he describes, from the detail of his reports!
