You don't have to re-record to get the run time. You should be able to go to the MP3, and if on Windows, right-click and go to Properties. The duration will be in there. Or open the MP3 in a player. They generally tell how long the file is. Or you could open it up in Audacity again, without re-reco...

I use the run times when cataloging, to make sure the files are correct (that they didn't get switched around during cataloging, or that a file didn't get renamed to become a different section, or if a section was edited and has a really different run time, that it's the new one and not the old one...
