Re: My voice has DEFINITELY changed

For a very generous definition of 'soon', you betcha. I'm looking forward to those changes very much, too, my older lady voice will be coming in about the time I can legally work on Miss Marple! 8-) And over the same period, your voice, as well as Elijah's, will probably lift slightly. Age-related c...

Re: New Genre: Science Fiction

I saw Fantasy as a genre in its own right -- if it has an elf, it's Fantasy ... unless the elf is in space, in which case it's Science Fiction again ... unless the spaceship is a giant flying coffin in which case we might be heading towards Gothic ... Hence differentiating Fantastic (which co...

Heh, I think it was the logging in that threw things off; I was anonymous to start. :D

Re: My voice has DEFINITELY changed

My goodness, that IS some change, Elijah! My change is mostly around the sound quality 8-) though my voice has deepened a little over the last 11 years. Plus no slightly-stuffy nose, and I'm a little better at pronouncing Lib RI vox after saying it a few thousand times. https://ia800202.us...

Re: Trying out Twitch (AKA watch me edit ... ooh! ahh!)

I joined and watched, but the first comment I typed disappeared into the aether, and after that I didn't want to interrupt. :D The visual quality was really clear -- if I have another go, I'll have to experiment with the settings because my first goes were quite fuzzy on playing back. Random thought...

Re: constant repetition of public domain message

Me too - it was Cori Samuels, actually! :9: I was listening to a longer recording of hers (sorry, forget which one!) and in the last chapter of the book the emphasis was slightly different, with a stress on "volunteer" - and I suddenly wondered if I could do that! I am (I HOPE!!!) not suggestive .....

Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread

If that doesn't help, then you could work through the options here: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/error_opening_sound_device.html ... a variety of minor issues can cause this epic-looking problem (also some bigger problems, but hopefully it's just Windows in a tangle.)

Re: One Book A Week Club 2018

One year, I only read 5 books in total -- however, that was the year I first got 'unlimited' broadband internet and I was reading for hours each day in a busy forum. Perhaps it's only because of the title of the topic, but it is interesting that we really only tend to 'count' reading if it's in a bo...

Re: [SOLVED] Duplicate-Work Question

Agreeing with everyone above. :D First question: Can two or more "duplicate" works be on the forum (NOT the catalogue yet) at the same time (if they are started by two different volunteers)? Yes, we call it the 'choice of voice' and it doesn't matter if both works are in progress. That said, I'd see...

From the Archive.org Annual Bash ...

Every year the Internet Archive, who host our website and all our audiobooks, has a gathering, and this year's was on the theme of Building a Better Web . Their goals: Let’s bring everything online and make it accessible; Let’s make what is digital permanent and reliable; Let’s build a decentralized...

Re: Need recording advice from seasoned readers

I ... wow ... no, you're right, Tricia ... I just checked. We recorded it a little before you joined, so, I have NO IDEA what happened there, except I am still convinced I did not edit it. I wonder if maybe Gesine did? And funny, at 43 mins it was the longest thing I read in my first year here. :rol...

Re: Need recording advice from seasoned readers

 The clue's in the name -- proof LISTENER. I'd be incredibly annoyed if someone tinkered with my audio without checking with me first. I hope that's super-rare and that people quickly realise that's not how we do things. In the case where the reader can't edit for whatever reason, that's a di...
