Re: Finnish Librivoxers

I wonder if your friend was thinking about recording books or newspapers for the blind? That can be quite niche and I can imagine those organisations might have professional requirements, even where it's a voluntary activity. As an 'organisation', LibriVox doesn't have those limitations. :D

Re: Commercial Use of Librivox Recordings

I s'pose another question is *exactly* what a Public Domain licence allows. I know it means people can sell the recording, edit it into their own music and videos, listen to it in any country where the death dates are legal ... but I'm not sure it means that someone can lie about who recorded it (co...

Re: Free plans for a drawing camera

It seems like it would help -- drawing is about choosing what to draw, in part, which would be an important aspect of this. There's also the basic confidence-building of being able to see how simple lines on a page combine into a picture/design. Helping people to see what IS there, rather than what ...

Re: Free plans for a drawing camera

That looks like a fascinating project (not that I have the hardware skills/tools to make it work.)

Re: Newbie with a Question

Recording works okay I think, but editing is likely to be a pain. I've not looked for a couple of years though -- TwistedWave was the best option back then, but hopefully there are more choices now. Experiment! :D

Re: How many countries have you traveled to?

Hm, 11, I think ... Wales, Scotland, France, Greece, Denmark, Portugal, Netherlands, USA, Canada, Hong Kong, Australia. It's way past time I visited Ireland, and I'd also love to go to Vietnam and Morocco, though they're part of a much longer list, of course.

4 - that'll be John Legend! It's a new song to me, but it's lovely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=450p7goxZqg

Re: "True Ghost Stories" -- Fiction or Non-Fiction?

Non-Fiction is a section within Fiction in our catalog. So it's fine to put them wherever people are comfortable with them (which is probably where they match existing works for that section in tone & content.)

I'm with Monaxi (except I only keep MP3, not flac.) Definitely the tidying up feeling, though!

Re: World Cup 2018

I drew Croatia in the office sweepstake, so I'm cheering them on officially. :D Purely for the mood in my part of the world, I hope England play well (which isn't the same as winning, of course.)

Re: Some Books that Aren't in the Public Domain (and why)

If you have an American book published post-1923 (copyrighted in the US) that had been translated in a country with a "life+" formula, for the resident of that country I KNOW that the "creator" is the TRANSLATOR. If the original text was not written in that foreign country then what is left to unde...

It's really not up to us. You're welcome to post in the archive.org forums and ask them to review their format policies, though. :D

Re: Background noise

And bear in mind, you don't need to foam the whole room, necessarily. Recording in a roomy closet (if you have such a thing) can work. Or an arrangement like this: http://www.audiomasterclass.com/newsletter/the-ultimate-portable-vocal-booth
