You've used the solo template. Is this a group or solo project? If it is truly a group project, you'll want to redo the template.

Stab in the dark here: I wonder if this isn't a memory issue, but an actual space within the track issue.

Go into Preferences / Tracks / Tracks behaviors. Is the box "Editing a clip can move other clips" checked? If not, check it.
