Re: Test Listener

Yep, it's mono now. :) Regarding the noise: yes, it's probably from the microphone somehow. If you fall in love with recording and want to do it for the rest of your life, you'll want to invest in a better microphone. But in the meantime with some noise reduction, this should be OK for our purposes....

You're in!

You're welcome for launching this. Hopefully we'll get some good interest, so that the project becomes publicly available fairly quickly. :)

Re: one minute test

Sounds good! I can't hear the electrical noise on my cheap laptop speakers, but I can definitely see it in that first sample. Looks to me that if your computer battery is good, you could record without it plugged in and probably do no noise removal after that. Or you could do a light one - about 8 d...

Re: One minute test

Good! All is set.

Volume is a touch high. It's OK; just don't go any louder. ;)

Re: Test Listener/Editor wanted

So, this recording is still in stereo, but all the sound is in one speaker/channel. And you've got clipping. Here's how it looks in my Audacity window: https://librivox.org/uploads/xx-nonproject/audacity.JPG Did you set the recording channels to "1 (mono)"? The red lines are where the recording is n...

Re: Section with MINUTES of ending silence

It was PL OK'd. Very strange. Is all the text there, or did it wipe out the last few minutes of recording? The original posted time for the section was 29:53, so the length is correct. The question is whether the PL really messed up. EDIT to add: but yes, if it's simply a matter of a long end...

Re: [Humor/Essays] Select Conversations with an Uncle (Now Extinct) and Two Other Reminiscences, by H.G. Wells - tg

ReplayGain tells you how much to amplify your file, not its volume. So if it said -1.4 dB, that means you're to decrease the volume by 1.4 dB to get it to "ideal." (Personally, if it's -1.4, I leave it alone. Being a dB or two over is no big deal, and I find that ReplayGain tends to underestimate "i...

Re: Test Listener/Editor wanted

Well, you uploaded it and got a link, so that part works. :) File is in WAV format. We need MP3. Have you downloaded and installed the LAME encoder yet? Some of the tech specs are MP3-specific, so I can't check them. But I'll check what I can. :) - Your volume is too low. Visually, you should aim fo...

Re: Unable to Upload Audio File

Sounds to me like it was finished. .29 kb sounds like the size of file given by the uploader after it's finished.

Ask if the progress bar went away and a web link showed up.
