Nice of you to say so, but I've just had a post from a Librivox mod saying that my post was "not nice" and "completely unnecessary".

Anyway, best wishes to you.

Re: [GROUP]The Seaboard Parish by George MacDonald-annise

FWIW, Annals of a Quiet Neighbourhood and The Seaboard Parish were published in the late 1860s. My sense of the text is that the first comprises what are to be understood as contemporary reminiscences of a (relatively) elderly clergyman, Mr. Walton. He's writing about what he remembers from his firs...

Re: [GROUP]The Seaboard Parish by George MacDonald-annise

Oh, that's fun! Another George MacDonald novel. These don't often work very well as novels , but he is an interesting writer. I just listened to Thomas Wingfold, Curate (to which Librivox has put an unfortunately anachronistic image of an eighteenth-century gentleman in a wig and tabs). In that one ...

Re: Pronunciation...

Just read this article and found it extremely interesting still in the pronunciation topic. :) http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/mar/11/pronunciation-errors-english-language How interesting! It says there that the original spelling/pronunciation of WASP was WAPS... Note that in German, ...

Re: Marking the centenary of the beginning of WWI

If you think "Epitaphs of the War" suitable for what you're doing may I have a try at reading it. I think it could be interesting to do, and probably doable for an unpractised reader (i.e. me) since they're short pieces.

Re: Marking the centenary of the beginning of WWI

Thanks for the suggestions, Mike. Unfortunately all of those save Kipling's Epitaphs of the War (1922) and Jünger's original In Stahlgewittern (1920) in German are still in copyright in the US. Ruth How about The Seven Pillars of Wisdom , Ruth? It's a long time since I read it, but there must be an...

Re: Marking the centenary of the beginning of WWI

I keep finding fascinating books, and they all turn out not to be PD for me  . I shall make a post in the thread with these suggestions, in case anyone is interested. Ruth How about any of the following? Robert Graves' Goodbye to All That Siegfried Sasson's Memoirs of a Foxhunting Man Edmu...

Re: Who's the author?

Mike, your earlier description of it was so accurate I thought at first you knew it and were just giving other people a chance. (It's an only slightly representative quote, I wanted to find something with Our Ford or Soma which would have been much more obvious for people, but I don't have a copy i...

Re: Who's the author?

Number 4 was mine. As a clue I will say the title is a quotation from Shakespeare. That starts another thought for me. Namely, I wonder if this is dialogue from a play. There's something curiously loose about it -- for example, the way it moves from "stability" in one sentence to "ha...

No. 5 is in the LibriVox catalogue.
Whoops! Of course. I don't know No. 4, but it would obviously be very recent.

FWIW, I checked and No. 2 is in progress at Librivox but not completed yet.
