Re: Am I allowed to constructively critique a reader?

As an outsider there seem to me to be regional variations in the USA as well with quite basic words so isn't it possible that the writer of the book came from the same place as the reader and a different place than the listener? No. I am a native speaker of American English and a former professiona...

Re: Am I allowed to constructively critique a reader?

In short, we don't give this type of feedback unless it's specifically requested: [Sigh. . . .] Okay. . . . It's just very hard for me. Keeping American English a communication medium rather than only an expressive medium has sort of been my life's work, and I feel like I have lost and am still los...

Am I allowed to constructively critique a reader?

Hello, all I am listening to a recently recorded Librivox book. The reader is very good at reading . . . except for pronunciation. From their accent, they are a native speaker of American English (I'd guess the Northeastern or Midwestern, but they could be from the Pacific Coast), but clearly they a...

Commonly mispronounced words thread?

Is there a commonly mispronounced words thread to which I can add a few that have been driving me nuts? I'm not talking about a specific reader; I'm talking about specific words, frequently mispronounced. (For example, one I've seen mentioned elsewhere in the forums, Wodehouse. It would be a good on...

Re: I liked the old catalog better

Could you please restore the posting date to the catalog and make it possible to search by that? I, like my sister, used to make a monthly visit to LibriVox to scan everything that had been added that month. The posting date doesn't appear at all in the new catalog, which makes it impossible to do a...

[FIXED] Once on a Time by A. A. Milne, chapter 20

http://librivox.org/once-on-a-time-by-a-a-milne/ In chapter 20 (mislabeled Chap 21), the following text is missing from the recording: "Of course," said Hyacinth, deciding at once that it would not matter if she only told Coronel. "Well, then, listen." It should come between &quo...

Hi, all! Thanks so much for all the advice! My problem seems to have been very simple, and I should have thought to try it before I bothered all of you: apparently Lame was not properly installed (maybe I forgot to install the new version?). I did a reinstall of that, and now the output from Audacit...

Thanks!

I'll try both the ID tags check and redownloading the files as a zip file. I think I'll also try Levelator instead of Audacity for this purpose--thanks for mentioning it!

I'll let you know how I make out!

I am only using Audacity to boost the gain on already existing LibriVox files. I generally use iTunes to play. I only was observing that whatever was causing trouble in iTunes doesn't affect playback in Audacity. I downloaded the files as normal (Subscribe in iTunes), and they worked in iTunes, but ...

Trouble with working with Audacity

Hi! I am trying to raise the maximum volume on some LibriVox projects. The standard recording volume is just too low; even at the loudest volume, I have trouble hearing. So I opened the LibriVox mp3 files in Audacity, boosted the gain, and reexported them. But I'm getting a funny effect on some file...

Please reassign my chapter . . .

It's official: unless I put in more hours at my second job, I'm going to lose it. @_@

So I have got to give up Wiggs's Good Day. Sniffle. . . . I just love the bit where she finds out that she can dance.

Sorry to leave you hanging for so long and then wiggle out anyway at the end!

Question

Thanks much for the good wishes! Unfortunately, things don't look promising, but I'll see where I am in a couple weeks. On a different subtopic, isn't it possible to list titles under more than one genre in the LibriVox catalog? I noticed that this project isn't listed under humor, and it really sho...

August check-in

Hi, all! This is my August check-in. Unfortunately, my real life hasn't allowed me time to do it, but I always suspected I wouldn't get to it until September. It looks, however, like things may not calm down in September. If so, I'll give up the chapter, much as I love the tale of Wiggs's good day. ...
