Re: [FULL] Historical Mysteries by Andrew Lang - lt

Hi Elsie, section 9 is coming along, almost done. Finished my first recording and my first review of spots I needed to re-record. Should have something to upload before the month is out. Confession: This is harder than I thought! I have a new-found respect for readers, esp. of this text: Lang's pros...

Re: [OPEN] Historical Mysteries by Andrew Lang - lt

Hi Elsie! Pending the approval of my 1-Minute Test, may I please claim section 9, The Case of Captain Green? This will be my first LV recording. I'd like my pseudonym to be voxdockery, and I do not at this time have a personal website for linking :) Thank you!

Re: 1-Minute Test (voxdockery)

The technical settings are all correct, however I would suggest running a round of noise-cleaning , as the background noise level is a bit high. This mars a little bit the listening experience. ... Something else I noticed is the high DC bias . Usually it's around -1, 0 or +1, but yours is +17. ......

Re: 1-Minute Test (voxdockery)

wait, you mean your DC bias was even higher before ? Maybe you could check on the left side of your "waves" window. There should be a microphone icon next to a slider. Is that one really centered between - and + ? Well, it was a bit of a slap-dash recording, done on my iPhone through my Ear...

Re: 1-Minute Test (voxdockery)

hello Preston, and a warm welcome to Librivox :) ... Sonia Thanks very much for the feedback, Sonia! I'll reupload as soon as I can tweak those settings. As it turns out, the recording I uploaded was one on which I had already performed a noise reduction and a normalize . I'm thinking the Com...

1-Minute Test (voxdockery) [OK]

Hello! I've uploaded my one-minute test below. It's not strictly raw: in Audacity, I did a Normalize, then a Compressor with the settings below. Looking for feedback please :) https://librivox.org/uploads/tests/test_voxdockery.mp3 Compressor settings Threshold: -20dB Noise Floor: -40dB Ratio: 2:1 At...

Re: Newbie here

Also, have you installed the Checker? it is very helpful. (I'll see if I can find the link.) EDIT: Here it is. https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Checker What are your settings when you run Replay Gain? Thanks, Kevin! It uses Java, so I'll have to run that from home (at work atm). I was able to ge...

That means you need to amplify your recording down 2.6 db. This means your recording is a little bit too loud. Hope this helps.
Thanks, EJ! I will try that!

Re: Newbie here

Thanks, cowguy02 & ej400 Already, I have a question... I've read that we're looking for ranges of about 89db, but when I run the ReplayGain plugin for Audacity, it tells me my gain level is -2.6 db  This is after doing a simple Noise Reduction, Normalize, and Compressor. It sounds just as lou...
