In an anthropomorphic swine society, I'm sure "Bringing home the bacon" is a morbid phrase.
Maybe they bring home the long pork!!!

A white horse walks into a bar and the bar man says 'why the long face?'

The white horse asks for a whisky.
The barman thinks 'white horse' and says
'Hey, we've got a whisky named after you'.
The horse says 'What, Eric?'

I was looking forward to a life of piracy on the high seas. Rape and pillage, general drunken debauchery. Turned for inspiration to Librivox's tales of Buccaneers and Privateers. Learnt how to splice the main brace, read stories of captives walk the plank. Ticked the keelhauling box and even bought ...

I'm not meaning to be prudish. I can surely turn a ripe phrase or two, only too often. It's the way such words are used so off hand in the media that annoys me. In many circumstances the absence of swearing would be wrong. Couldn't imagine the likes of Scarface saying 'Golly gosh' However I can't ag...

This was my gripe concerning the Russel Brand/Johnathan Ross affair. Once the hubbub over their stupid prank had died down, the debate seemed to turn to Ross's general style of presenting and in particular the number of profanities. The BBC's defence rested upon its duty to push bounderies. My quest...

Not a bull in the UK, any male.

On the perception of degree of swearyness, my parent frowned upon all such expletives but the c word would always guarantee a thick ear.

Hi Ryan, I would naturally use 'Were it not for...' It used to be said 'Two nations seperated by a common language'. now it's many nations, regions, social groups. Also, much of what I learnt at school be be poor grammar is now considered acceptable, and vice versa. English is such a fluid language ...

I hope you tell your passengers about Librivox. I do indeed Ruth. Always have the current book in the cd player and often turn it on to give people a sample. Usually get very positive feedback. I know a couple of passengers regularly use LV now. Once listened to, most discs go to an old folks home ...

Nah... not an average of 20 seconds. Many poetry recordings have only "This recording is in the public domain" and newer solo recordings have "This Librivox recording is in the public domain" for all but the first chapter. A mere few seconds. Apologies for not checking this out ...

48511 sections complete?
Taking an average of 20 seconds,
that's 970220 secs or 11 days of 'the disclaimer'.

Promise I'm not starting the old argument.
Just an observation from an anorak.

Birmingham, though? Sheesh, the problem may be they didn't understand a word you said. (TOTALLY Just kidding - I was thinking about Lister from Red Dwarf - I could listen to him talk all day long, but find myself constantly asking my boyfriend, "What'd he say?") Lister's mistaken for a Bi...
