JolleyJ - welcome!
In the Short Poetry collection (and other collections), the sections in the Magic Window are already done. They're not for claiming. Instead, you find a poem on your own and record it. Please see the first post for further details. (If you do choose to do this poem, it'll go in the July collection. We try to keep duplicates out of the individual collections.)
Your volume is too low. Are you using Audacity? You should aim for your wave forms to peak near the 0.5 mark, like this:
Yours are barely pimples on the base line.
Make sure the microphone slider in the Audacity window is all the way up. Also, have you increased your input volume in Windows/OS yet? Here's a link to instructions: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Audacity_1-2-3#Volume
Try making these adjustments, re-record, then post it as a one-minute test (LINK) in the Listeners Wanted forum.

PL OK.
Are those children in the background? Your recordings would improve if you could record in a quieter environment. That's not possible for some people, though.

I'm sorry - but we cannot use this. It isn't in the public domain. A good rule of thumb to be PD is that the work must be published in 1922 or earlier.PhantomBlot wrote:High Flight- John Gillespie McGee Jr. (1922-1941)

Tricia-
Since my first didn't fall under public domain (and the second should I think), would it be okay to submit one more?
Thanks

0:02 - We don't need birth/death dates recorded; it's up to you if you want to remove it.PhantomBlot wrote:Thanks for checking on that one. Sorry about that. Will be mindful to check going forward.

It looks like you may have exported as variable bit rate. Check to make sure you're doing constant bit rate (when you're on the screen where you enter the MP3 file name, click on Options. Change it to Bit Rate Mode - CONSTANT).
You also have some background noise. You will want to consider noise cleaning. Here's a link: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noisecleaning_With_Pics
Try making these adjustments, then upload again. Use the same file name as your previous one.

Hi Tricia,
Here are my two poems. Let me know if they check out OK or if I need to redo either or both of them.
Thank you!

Welcome, Barty!
How would you like to be credited in the catalog? There are places for a catalog name (some use a nickname, some their real name) and a web site, if you have one.
Beautifully read poem!
Your volume is a bit too low. Are you using Audacity? You should aim for your wave forms to peak near the 0.5 mark, like this:
Make sure the microphone slider in the Audacity window is all the way up. Also, have you increased your input volume in Windows/OS yet? Here's a link to instructions: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Audacity_1-2-3#Volume
You also have some slight background noise. You will want to consider noise cleaning. Here's a link: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Noisecleaning_With_Pics
Your ending wording could probably have less pause in it, and then add 5 seconds of silence at the very end after all speech.
Try making these adjustments, then upload again. Use the same file name as your previous one, and post in this same thread when it's ready.

Hello Tricia G
I'm not using Audacity for the recording, but I am using it to edit. I kept the same file and amplified as much as I could without clipping, and did the noise removal;
I hope it works. Do let me know.
And, yes, I would like to be credited, so I have added "Recorded by ..." in the comments; is this what you meant by the place for the catalogue name?
