I don't know what PL means. I think I will re-record it if it isn't up to scratch. The background noise is traffic and I don't know how to remove it without affecting the rhythm and the diction etc. I'll play around with it on Audacity till the rush hour is over!

Thanks for the feedback

Sorry Duncan - PL stands for proof listener.

It was a splendid reading and the delivery was very powerful. The background noise is a minor distraction, and I mentioned it to indicate that it would be good if you could find a way to reduce it in future recordings. However, if you apply noise cleaning too agressively to your recordings, it can result in excessive distortion. We all have to live with the fact that, outside of a professional recording studio, there is no such thing as a perfect recording.

Cheers

Lycidas by John Milton 1608-1674

I have made another, in my opinion much clearer, recording of Lycidas. I would like some feedback if possible but I notice that the earlier recording is now in the 'magic window'.

I think I'll choose a shorter poem for my next contribution.

Welcome, sugarc82!

Read the first post carefully. It tells you how to choose a poem and submit it to the collection.

Tricia:

I just uploaded the following poem (had trouble finding the link to post reply):

"The Ballad of the Dead Ladies" by Francois Villon (c. 1431-1463), translated by Dante Gabriel Rossetti
Text URL: http://www.theotherpages.org/poems/part2/villon01.html#ballad
MP3 URL: http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/tg/the_ballad_of_the_dead_ladies_francois_villon_hs.mp3
Duration:1:36

Please use hslam as my name for the catalog.

Hope the recording is OK. Let me know if there are any problems.
Best,
hslam

Hi Sebastian

Great voice and great readings!

There are just a few minor errors that need correction:
1) To

At 0:15
you may call it madness, folly;
Folly sounded like frolly

0:19
you read:
if I would
instead of:
I would not

2) Written a midnight

At 0:25
you read
Each with the worlds that rolled him rolled rejoicing,
instead of:
Each with the worlds that round him rolled rejoicing,

Your recordings are a little too loud. I normalized each of them to -3db and I think they sounded father better. As a rule, I find it best to keep to a maximum amplitude of -0.3 - 0.4 db in my own recordings.

I have uploaded an edited version of Written at Midnight. Please listen and see what you think:
http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/tg/writtenatmidnight_rogers_ss_edited.mp3

I look forward to future readings from you.

Cheers

Here is a swingin', jazzy little piece of slightly skewed Biblical folklore:
